No idea.

No idea.

There are so few good books in the first person but that one really works . I'm glad you liked it!

I agree that we will never find a reading twin. Often I find our differences as interesting to discuss as our similarities.

And Rupert's father also proves himself to be a good duke by picking Olivia. I agree that works and provides some very moving moments. But the narrative arc didn't work for me. And the key felt extraneous.

Fascinating . So who is a gamma hero?
I guess I sorta see Jack as an alpha who has learned he has to restrain his domineering tendency.

I liked the test element although it could even have been played up more. I didn't really feel like the key added much. ( whereas in beauty and the beast I felt the fairytale elements really went to the heart of the story.)

Janga, I'm rereading it now and still feel he is an alpha--which the heroine calls him and he agrees, altho that's of course not definitive.
But I forgot to ask--what's a gamma hero?

Hey all--I've created a thread for you top 10 books of 2011. I can't wait to see what books we all agree on and what great books I might have missed.

Ok, I'm ready now. Not in order...except for 1.
1. Black Hawk--I usually can't pick one favorite but this is definitely it.
2. A Lady's Lesson in Scandal
3. Dragon Bound--I don't usually read this kind of book but it's fabulous.
4. A Lily Among Thorns
5. The other guy's bride
6. When Beauty Tamed the Beast
7. Unveiled
8. Never a Gentleman (there are things I really don't like about this book but it draws me back--two people trapped by trying to do the right thing in increasingly impossible circumstances)
9. The Many Sins of Lord Cameron
10. What I Did for a Duke
Scandalous Desires is probably my top also ran.

Congrats manda!
I'm reading The Other Guys Bride, which I love. I stopped reading A lady's Awakening although I think I will go back. It's beautifully written and fascinating. I just can't enjoy reading it, I think because so far I dont like either hero or heroine. ( Spoiler: I also have a hard time believing that a woman who knows sexual pleasure and famtasises about men would be this uncomfortable and displeased with the man she asked to inpregnate her.)

I really liked Rupert. I also liked his father. Olivia's parents on the other hand....
The book as a whole didn't work for me though. It felt like two different books--Olivia and Quinns love story, which was fine but not as compelling as many of her books, was the first one, and then this strange rescue. It might have worked better if they were trying to save his life. Or if he has been attached to Olivia instead of Lucy. As it was, it just felt unlikely and unnecessary.
She is absolutely one of my favorite authors and maybe on rereading it will come together for me but on first read it didn't work.

It's preordered Janga. I'll let you know!

Now that the year is over, what are your top 10 books of 2011? Your call whether to include two from the same author. I'll post my list as soon as I finish the last three possible candidates.

Working on Hidden Summit, which is not wowing me. I read the Duke is mine. Not sure what I think of it. I wasn't expecting the ...trip to France. Almost feels like two different books.
Next up are the new Gurhke and The other Guy's Bride.

Hm. I guess I feel it's how he goes about fixing things that makes him an alpha. I'll have to think about this.

Oh and you are not late. It IS the Monday puzzler. It's just that many of us find it easier to post on Sunday.

I love this book. It's my favorite of all her books which is funny since I generally prefer historicals. So yeah Janga I agree the right person can break the rules. But...do you really think this hero is a beta? I've always considered him an alpha. Of course this scene is a big part of why....

Same here.

I think Long writes some of the best romantic banter in the business. And I really liked Phoebe as a character. So it frustrated me that her hero was so unoriginal.
I agree about fear if commitment. I hate to say it Jamga but I winder if that's partly our age. My college age daughter seems to have a hard time imagining having both a job and a marriage. So do her friends.
