37069 YAY! I finished the decade challenge!
Oct 02, 2010 07:13AM

37069 I thought I'd post some ways I find books for each decade.

In "my books" I put my to-read shelf into list view and sort it by year published. (sometimes I'll do this with my friends' bookshelves too to see what they liked)

I'll look through these wikipedia pages to find titles I wouldn't know to look for:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category...

And in Listopia here at Goodreads, there are "Best of" lists for each decade.

37069 hehe...no, not a job - but so many books, so little time :)

37069 I have a bookcase full of books, a Kindle full of books, and a "want-to-get" list a mile long. That doesn't seem to make it any easier for me to decide what to read next.

At the beginning of the year I think about what challenges I want to do and go through my to-read list and see what fits. I find it gives me that incentive to go to books that have been sitting a while. I really love it through the year when book club reads fit in with the challenges :)

Do you actively use challenges to decide what to read? What's your strategy?

37069 Thanks Kathy...that looks great. As soon as I get through the book I'm reading now I'm going to dive into that site :)

37069 I don't know if this is really a family saga, but it was certainly a family drama that seemed to drag on forever - so I'm counting it :)

37069 oohh..I like this challenge. I love King's work, but I read most of it so long ago that I get very mixed up as to what I have and haven't read by him. Earlier this year I was a quarter of the way through Needful Things when I realized I had read it before :)
