1. Combo (5 points): Read a book for one task that could have applied to another task as well. If a book applies to one other task, you will receive 5 style points. If it applies to two other tasks, you will receive 10 points...and so on.
2. Review (10 points): Inquiring minds want to know your thoughts about the books you’ve read, so help us grow our to-be-read lists by posting a 100+ word review with your completed task.
3. Not-a-Novel (10 points): Explore new forms by reading short story collections, non-fiction, plays, and poetry collections.
4. Oldies (5 to 25 points): Put down the bestseller list and read something with a bit more mileage on it. Based on a book's original publication date, style points will be awarded according to the following scale:
-25 to 75 years old: 5 points (1945-1995)
-76 to 150 years old: 10 points (1870-1944)
-151 to 250 years old: 15 points (1770-1869)
-251 to 400 rs old: 20 points (1620-1769)
-400+ years old: 25 points (1619 and older).
5. Jumbo (5 to 25 points): Receive extra points for reading big books according to the following scale:
500-699 Pages: 5 Points
700-799 Pages: 10 Points
800-899 Pages: 15 Points
900-999 Pages: 20 Points
1000+ Pages: 25 Points

Read ten books by ten different authors where 9 is the sum of the last 2-digits of the original publication year OR the last 2-digits of the author's birth year OR the last 2-digits of the MPE page count. These combinations are: 09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90.
Your books will have one of each of the 10 combinations. You can mix and match the ways of arriving at the Power of Nine. You might have 3 books of pub year, 5 of author birth, 2 of MPE page count, for example. Each combination can only be used once per round.
Scoring:
15.1-15.10=15 points
100 point completion bonus
50 point bonus for using single criterion (i.e. birth year)
50 point bonus for numerical finish (09, 18, 27, etc)
Power of 9 can be completed three times.
A few reminders:
I. You cannot claim regular style points for any book you read for Power of 9 (nor do the Power of 9 tasks count as Combo style points for regular Reading with Style tasks).
II. All books read for this sub-challenge must be at least 100 pages, based on the most popular English-language print edition (MPE).
III. Please be aware that cookbooks, illustrated guides, and graphic novels are not allowed for the sub-challenge. Also, books designated as "YA", "Assignment", or "Juv" by the Brooklyn Public Library with a Lexile score less than 800.

This is the first time I have recorded you posting for 10.8. Did I miss an earlier one?

I thank you all very much for my early birthday wishes, I am still rocking my 30's, but the big anniversary of my 25th is coming! I have enjoyed each decade more than the last and have big hopes that this one will be the same.

(Please post your points for completed tasks in the Completed Tasks topic. This Readerboard folder shows the current point standings of the challenge participants who have posted points. It's generally updated every week or so.)
Note: Please post your points frequently. Players who post many completed tasks the last week of the challenge may not have all their points tallied for inclusion on the Readerboard.
Happy reading!

Inspired by The Tales of Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Jemima Puddle-Duck and more, read a novel which has a main character’s name or nickname in the title. First, last or full name are okay, and the name may be the whole title or part of it. (examples: Olive Kitteridge, Jane Eyre, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine and The Brothers Karamazov).
Please post any discussion about task 20.8 in this thread.
