36119 10.9 is the best. I always love when we have a task like that.

I'm behind - didn't even really start planning until a few weeks ago. Luckily a lot of what I've read elsewhere fits, but this might not be a mega-finish season for me.

36119 10.8 PTSD: Coralie's Task

Plaid Nights Anthology by Rob Rosen

Review: This was a selection of Scottish themed m/m romance short stories. None of them really stand out in my mind – as with many anthologies and collections, some were better than others – but I guess that means I didn’t dislike any of them all that much. What’s interesting is that many of them weren’t set in Scotland, but pretty much all of them involved kilts, so even when they were set in the United States they almost felt like they were set in Scotland. This is clearly aimed at an audience that really likes the idea of men in kilts, and while I can get behind the thought, it isn’t something I really seek out.

36119 10.4 Hubert Selby (1928-2004)

Stalking Darkness by Lynn Flewelling

Review: After finishing the first in the series, Luck in the Shadows, I went straight into this one. It was almost as good, and there was more romantic tension, although I think I liked the first a little more. Maybe it’s because the world was new, and now it’s just a comforting place to go, but it’s not quite as exciting. I did like the romantic buildup, although I really wanted more at the end – they kiss, and they end up together, but it’s all very abrupt. Alec is just so very young, but I wanted more of his figuring out and more of them together. Poor Seregil goes through the ringer in this book – it’s a good thing he’s long-lived, because I think it’ll be a while before he gets to have a happy life.

36119 10.1 Fall Freebie

Mark of Cain by Kate Sherwood

Review: Mark of Cain uses a concept that’s hard to get your head around – the man who killed Mark’s brother in a bar fight a few years earlier has gotten out of prison, and they eventually fall in love. Making it more complicated, Mark is an episcopal priest, so his difficulty in showing compassion and forgiveness at the beginning was really interesting. In general, I liked Cain much more than Mark, even though he’s the one ostensibly trying to be a better man. Their relationship developed relatively reasonably, although I think when it got romantic maybe it was a little abrupt. By far the most realistic part to me was Mark’s mom’s reaction – I know my in-laws at least would never ever forgive anyone who harmed their children.

36119 I was about to start catching up on my posting (a little at a time, I promise!) and I realized that Wilfred Owen wasn't on this list!

36119 Yeah, too bad I didn't much care for the book I read. Still, I was excited to see she was a veteran :)

36119 Thanks! Things are still touch and go, but I'm starting to settle in. At least my reading seems mostly to be back to normal. I'm backed up on podcasts, so those are entertaining me for now, but I've got audiobooks lined up too. Hopefully I'll move closer to my job no later than spring :)
