That character should at least be a strong supporting rol..."Got it - thanks!!!

By "in which there is a fictional royal character" you mean the royalty in question doesn't have to be a main character?

I'll play - it's a good way to get back in the game :)

(Well, this weekend probably for the spring sub-challenge.)"Yay!
I found trying to start partway through to be too overwhelming, so I'm looking forward to paying attention from the beginning again. Now to see if I get completely sucked in again... this challenge has a tendency to do that to me ;)

Sounds like any wallet you buy may end up going on an adventure ;)
My husband once test drove a car in his hometown the day before a business trip to Hawaii. We got home 2 hours away and realized the dealership had kept his driver’s license! He managed to meet up with the salesman halfway between locations in time, but it was a close call. At least he would’ve been able to fly with his passport, but he could not have rented a car.

I was in kindergarten and so excited to be allowed to stay up late, although my little brother fell asleep. I hadn't realized he was sick and having to retire - that's a shame.

I'm basically copying over my goals from last year and adding a little in the tracking of diversity in the authors and protagonists I read. Maybe this year I'll actually hit my non-fiction target that I didn't even try to hit last year....
1) No more than 50% books by white authors
2) 12 non-fiction books (1/month)
3) 3% translated books
4) Continue to track (as much as possible) gender, race, LGBT, religion of authors/protagonists to increase diversity in my reading
5) Begin to track (as much as possible) disability in authors/protagonists to increase diversity in my reading
That's it. The author stats can be difficult - not every author wants their personal information to be public.

It's been weird to realize how many seasons I've been off the challenge - I didn't even pay attention to the winter tasks! I've been continuing to lurk in this thread and keep up with your lives, but I've definitely been "mood reading" as well. It would be interesting to go back and see how many of the books I read anyway would fit into the current challenge.
As I fell out of the habit of checking the tasks, I fell into the habit of paying more attention to who wrote the books I read. I met my goal of reading over half non-white authors, and when I set up my spreadsheet to figure out how many white male authors I read, it was only 8/166 in 2017! If only there were more time to read and more time to organize my reading!!!

Happy Holidays everyone :)

I can't believe it's almost fall! I have actually read a lot of the books I'd planned for summer but have no hope of posting them. I'm in awe of everyone who manages to keep up season after season. As soon as my life got crazy I had no hope of keeping up!

Oh Bea, I'm so sorry. When my husband died it was hard to find books that hit the right note. I hope you find some that will bring you comfort or escape. <3

Since one of the reasons I had trouble keeping up last season was that I'm trying to read half non-white authors this year, I went to my shelf for authors of color and compared the names between i and o. 41 more authors had i's in their name rather than o's (out of 371 books with a lot of duplicate authors). In the end I think any vowel choice will be relatively easy to fit though :)

I was glad we had the team challenge this time around, because I got to participate, but I'm probably not going to continue this season. Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of my husband's death, and last week I received news of the sudden passing of a close friend. She was only 49 and leaves behind a husband and 13 year old son. Right now, reading based on mood is the only thing that works, so I'll catch you guys next season if I'm feeling better :)

Yay! Good job guys!

Go, Valerie, go!!!
No matter what I think we did pretty well! Not even 2 weeks in and we're 29/30 :)

Did you like this book, btw? I've read a couple of her books. I first read a stand alone, City of Jasmine & enjoyed tha..."I did like it, although I have nothing of hers to compare it to. I was surprised at how quickly it read given the length, but the writing definitely could have been tightened up, and the mystery was a little all over the place. I'd read the next one though, definitely... whenever I manage to get around to it.
