I know this is totally off-topic, but I have to vent and I think that my friends here would understand...

I’m currently reading Spies of Mississippi: The True Story of the Spy Network that Tried to Destroy the Civil Rights Movement, a non-fiction book aimed at young readers (which I chose to complete a different challenge of a book from every U.S. state). It’s an accurate description of black lives during Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Movement, informative, well-researched, and timely in light of protests currently taking place in the U.S.

When I went to the page to change my reading status of the book, I glanced at the reviews and the top review, a one-star review, was filled with lies about the book and its author, thinly-veiled racism. The reviewer shelved it as “white-homeland” and “white nationalist.” I’m absolutely sickened by this—this forum (goodreads) normally feels like a safe place but that reviewer instantly tarnished that :’-(
And of course “comments” to their hateful review are turned off.
I “liked” the reviews below it in hopes that somehow more people would follow suit and the awful review would be buried...
This book has been out for ten years and has fewer than 500 reviews so it’s not like it’s being seen by a ton of people, but it’s the principle of the matter...I don’t like lies and hate being the top review.

Sorry, that was so rambling, I’m just still so bothered by it and this all happened yesterday :-(

Thank you! I had guessed that was the intent behind the task, but just wanted to verify :-)

I started reading The Map of Salt and Stars for 30.1 as I was under the impression it was mostly set in Syria. I’m 2/3 done and it’s clear that’s not the case. It IS set +75% in the Middle East, but in *several* countries (Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Libya so far, but have a feeling their travels will take them elsewhere). The wording of the task is “set at least 75% in one of [the listed] Middle Eastern countries.” Will this work since it’s not restricted to +75% in one country?

it’s a good thing this was short—don’t know if it was bad writing or bad translation but it was not great...i couldn’t sleep to save my life last night and kept picking it up in hopes of it putting me to sleep but it annoyed me too much to have any somnolent effect :-/ (also, to clarify, i didn’t start it until after midnight because i already have a carryover book—this isn’t my carryover. just don’t want to give the impression of cheating when i post the carryover. i’m overthinking this. don’t mind me. got no sleep last night...)
