35559 Chapter 24-30

24. The journey Kelsier and Vin made to catch their army was so inhuman, when they do things so physically intense like this I can't let to compare the mistborn to superhuman. Do you think Mr. Sanderson was inspired by some super hero from his childhood?

That's possible. Everyone gets their inspiration from something, why not super heroes?

25. Yeden was too eager to prove their army strength and know there is almost no man left. Could Kelsier's demonstration earlier on the caves have contributed to an exacerbated self confidence? And how will the plan keep going on?

Sadly, I think that was the case. But it's not always easy to see what the consequences for your actions will be, so I don't put too much blame on him. The plan will be more difficult to go through with from here, but they'll think of something.

26. Chapters 26 and 27 are a bit slower but we find a lot of new informations, such as how the plan will continues, some things about the Eleventh metal and that the Inquisitors really are mortals. Besides the depressing execution scene. How are you liking the pace of the book? Back on the first part took me some time to adjust to it but now I really enjoy that Mr. Anderson take time to develop subplots and to grow the atmosphere and some characters.

I really do like the pacing of the novel, and I'm one of those people who actually like subplots and lots of background details - makes it all feel more realistic.

27. Oh no, now that Elend is opening up with Valette his friend finds out that something isn't quite right! A spy on Vin's track wont be a good thing. And will Vin tell Kelsier about what she discovery from Elend?

This certainly will make it more difficult for the two to get together... I don't think Vin will tell Kelsier about her discovery until much later, because she's still afraid Elend will get too hurt in all of this, she cares too much about him.

28. Last and unforgettable ball!!! Elend damps Vin (Because he don't trust her or because he care too much?), Kliss is an informant and now knows that Vin is a Mistborn, Shan and Lord Venture are planning to kill Elend, and that final pages of the chapter when Vin try and save Elend, fighting against so many!! This girl is bad-ass!!! Things are getting hot.

That last chapter was definitely action-packed, wow! And so many things were revealed my head almost started spinning. I'm sooo excited about the end of the book now! And I'm getting more and more fond of Vin, I hope she'll be alright in the end...
35559 Chapter 16-23

18. When Vin is recuperating from her injury after her flight from the Inquisitor at the Lord Ruler's castle, we can clearly see the difference between her old crew where Camon would have left her for dead if she couldn't get on her feet and her new crew where all the members have sat by her bedside showing their concern for her. How do you think being in this new crew will change her?

Hopefully she will become more trusting finally, and start to actually become friends with them instead of just being a crew member hiding in the shadows.

19. We find out that Mare is the one who betrayed Kelsier three years ago. And the way she died, beaten to death after giving Kelsier the atium she found -- ugh, that was so sad! I'm having my doubts that she really betrayed him, especially since the Lord Ruler said it, and how good is his word, really. Do you think that Mare really did betray Kelsier?

I don't want to believe she did, but I wonder who could have done it...

20. Kelsier says that "given the choice between loving Mare--betrayal included--and never knowing her, I'd choose love. I risked, and I lost, but the risk was still worth it." Vin thinks this is foolish. I can see her point. Realistically, I think I play things on the safe side rather than risk a lot for a possible big reward. Do you agree with Kelsier or with Vin?

I'm somewhere in between. I take risks from time to time, but I usually think carefully if the risk is high, if it could actually be worth it.

21. Now that we know that the journal entries at the beginning of each chapter were written by the Lord Ruler, it's confusing because he claims to be fated to be a hero but clearly he's the bad guy in this story. This reminds me of Darth Vader in Star Wars who was predicted as a child to have the potential to be great, but he could go either way, becoming really good or really bad. Maybe it was the same with the Lord Ruler. He did defeat the Darkness (or so he claimed), and that sounds like a heroic feat. Plus the legend is that he used to be a beloved leader. So what happened? Do you think there is any way he could think himself a hero now, or is he a total villain?

I'm very curious to get to know the whole story of the Lord Ruler - either to see what happened, or to see if it's simply just a case of different points of view. I think possibly he still thinks he's the hero.

22. I heart Elend! That whole scene where he plops his books down on Vin's table and just starts reading had me LOL'ing. And later when he tells Vin to keep his handkerchief -- awwwww! I wish they could end up together, but with her playing a role, I'm sure he won't appreciate having been tricked if he ever discovers the truth. Any new guesses on if they end up together? It seems like life for the nobles isn't all roses either with the Lord Ruler controlling everything (although they clearly still have more perks than the skaa). Do you think the kinder nobles like Elend will end up helping with the rebellion?

I hope they will end up together! I adore him and think they are perfect for each other. I also hope the kinder nobles will join the rebellion.
35559 Chapter 7-15

10. Kelsier started training Vin. Do you think Vin is right and he won't teach her everything?

Oh, I don't know... Maybe he wants to keep some secrets, but I think he means to teach her everything she has to know to survive.

11. I can't figure out about Lord Renoux. Why would he be easily discovered as impostor?

I find this whole thing very confusing and intriguing. Can't wait to find out more about him!

12. Sazed is quite intriguing. Any idea what's his reason for joining rebellion? And what is Keeper? I love his fascination with religions. Do you think he'll finally find religion that's perfect for Vin (and others)?

I like him a lot! And I want to learn more about him. As for religions, I think that eventually he'll find a good religion for Vin - but it could take quite a while since there are so many...

13. Scene at the kitchen. It was great seeing Breeze at work. What do you think about his explanation of his 'talent'? Do you see it as manipulating others? (It would be great if Kelsier sends Vin with others to see them a work too ☺)

I loved this scene! And actually I found myself liking Breeze more and more, even though I disagree with him on some things... I agree that manipulation of people around us is normal behaviour and something that we all do in many situations... But using his talent is sort of cheating to me, because it's definitely manipulation with an advantage, and it shouldn't be used lightly.

14. Vin's old crew is dead. Somehow I don't feel it's still safe to continue with Vin's part of the plan. Do you think Inquisitor knows about plan or he's still only looking for Vin? Did Camon knew about it and about Vin being Mistborn?

I think the Inquisitor still only is looking for Vin, but that's dangerous enough. I don't think Camon knew about the plan, and I don't think he knew Vin is a Mistborn. I think he just noticed she had some talents and he used them.

15. I like Lord Elend and not only because he is reading a book at his own party. ☺ Although his thoughts don't really fit with nobleman. Do you think he was saying that only for Vin's sake to test her or he really thinks it? Will he join them too? (Somehow I don't think this is last we see of him ☺)

I also like him! His sense of humour is just my style! And yeah, he's reading at his own party - that's awesome. I do hope he joins them somehow, becomes an ally on the inside or something, because I want lots more of him... So I hope he truly thinks those things he said, and didn't just test Vin.

16. Vin and Elend only exchanged few words and team is already seeing affair! *snikers* (ok me too, but I've read too many romances to think it differently :P)
I have to say I don't really like that Vin thinks she needs to know everything Kelsier says and does. Do you think it's smart/good that she keeps eavesdropping his conversations and follow him on his nightly excursions? I see trouble in future.

Haha I saw an affair as soon as they started talking to each other. ;)
It's definitely not good that Vin keeps eavesdropping and following him. If he wanted her to know things or help him with things, he would tell her directly or ask her to come with him. Every man needs to be allowed to have his secrets...

17. Want to make a guess what Lord Ruler is hiding in that room? And how he heals so quickly and is basically immortal? Are those things (room and immortality) connected? How did Inquisitors appeared in the right place at the right time? Luck or another betrayal?

Hm, I have no idea what is hidden in that room. I have no idea how he heals so quickly and how he is immortal (even though a small thought is telling me maybe even the Lord Ruler isn't truly immortal but also has descendants who play the role during their lifetime so it seems he's immortal). Maybe the immortality is connected to that room, maybe not. And I don't think they were betrayed, the Inquisitors just happened to be around for some reason.
35559 Prologue - Chapter 6

1. Have you read any of Sanderson's books before? Why did you decide to join this read?

Yes, I read Steelheart 1.5 years ago, one of the first books I read after joining groups for reading challenges. I wanted to join this read because I've heard a lot about Mistborn for many years and have been meaning to read it but never got around to doing it.

2. After the success of Steelheart, this series was re-released for the YA market. What are your initial thoughts.... is it more Fantasy or YA?

For me, this is definitely more Fantasy than YA.

3. So far I'm really enjoying the characters. In particular, Kelsier's confidence and brashness contrasting with Vin's cautiousness and introversion. Do you have a favourite character so far? Anyone you particularly don't like?

So far, I don't have neither favourite characters nor characters that I particularly don't like. With novels of this length I usually stay neutral for quite a while, since there's often so much slow character-building and I'm curious about most characters. I do however like the way they all interact with each other.

4. I love the idea of Allomancy in this world, it gives a unique angle to the book. Do you agree?

I totally agree! I would have loved to be able to come up with something like this myself...

5. One thing that has bothered me is the role of females in this world. They seem to have little value other than as prostitutes or punching bags (or both). Did you notice this? Do you think Vin could be the antidote and give females a role model?

I hope she could be, because someone needs to do it and she seems fitting.

6. Kelsier and his friends have quite the job ahead of them. Do you think it is possible they can get control of the city?

Fantasy quests like this always seem impossible and somehow the heroes always succeed in one way or another. So I guess these guys will also succeed. Though I'm interested to see them working at it (and to see what and how much they will end up having to sacrifice in the process...).

7. Vin's brother ran away and there seems to be something between Kelsier and his brother. Are Vin and Kelsier more alike than it seems? Any guesses on the story behind their siblings?

Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. As for the story behind their siblings, I try not to think too much about details like that when I'm reading. I prefer to just keep on reading and let the stories be revealed along the way.

8. Kelsier didn't realise he was a Mistborn (or maybe he became one?) while in the Pits. Is it therefore possible there are a lot more out there unaware of their talents?

That is highly possible, I think. And that makes it all even more interesting!

9. Before the start of every chapter are the first person narratives. Any guesses on how these connect with the larger story? Do you think they are the thoughts/diaries of The Lord Ruler? Kelsier? Someone else?

I have no idea, and I won't be making any guesses anytime soon. But I hope we will get to know eventually who it is.
