35559 Yes! I definitely agree! Dont slow down now as life does get in the way and sometimes as you go through the challenge, you get a little burnt out from reading so much. So if youre enjoying the reading now, go for it :)

Unfortunately, only books started after the start of the challenge count.
35559 DQ: 18 May - Sugi and Chikako's Hotel for Pets & Between Friends

9) Considering Satoru seems to be quite perceptive overall, do you think he knew about Sugi’s less charitable feelings about him, both in the past and during this visit?

Honestly, I think Satoru is the kind of person to ignore that. If he did know he did a very good job of hiding it. He seems like a very happy and optimistic guy who would try not to let anything really get him down.

10) So far, the chapters have all been combining Satoru and Nana’s journey with Satoru’s past with several other people, as well as their backgrounds. How do you feel about this interlude (chapter 3.5) focused entirely on the man and his cat? What does it add to the story?

I thought it made a little more sense. I understood how the story was going more at the end, but it was a little jarring how often they switched perspectives with little warning

11) For the first time, we got a hint of what’s going on with Satoru when the dog said “he smells like he isn’t going to make it” in chapter 3, and this came up again in chapter 3.5. So it sounds like Satoru is ill… was that your prediction for question 4?

It was a part of my prediction. The prediction was nagging at the back of my head since he tried to give him to Yoshimine and when he looked down for a bit when Sugi and Chikkaro said they were thinking of this as a temporary thing, that confirmed it. I honestly felt a little too cynical even putting that he was dying in the first part (i almost left it out)

12) Squabbles between cats and dogs were really present in these sections. So: Are you a cat person or a dog person or both (or neither)?

I'm more so a cat person, but I also enjoy cats.

5) I really like reading the cat's thoughts. It can be quite funny. Do you think these are convincing cat thoughts?

I think they could be. We obviously can't read any animals minds so it's hard to tell what they actually would be saying, but I would presume from cat's behaviors that they hold themselves highly and think that humans are silly individuals. I also very much enjoy reading the Nana's viewpoint in this book.

6) In this chapter we are introduced to Yoshimine, another potential owner for our cat. What do you think of him and his backstory?

I think his backstory is very sad. His parents liked their jobs more than him. In that case, I question why they would've even have had a kids as that's not fair to them! I felt a lot of sympathy to Yoshimine after hearing his backstory.

7) Do you think Yoshimine would have been a good owner for Nana ?

I struggle to answer this as he does seem like a genuine guy. The only issue is he wasn't raised to care about things. He would've kept Nana fed and Nana would've survived for sure, but I feel like Nana really enjoyed the company that Saruto gave him and I don't think that Yoshimine would've been able to give that to him.

8) Yoshimine has already a kitten called Chatran, and Satoru makes fun of him for naming his cat with such a cliché name. What is for you the most cliché cat name(s)? In french it is quite common to call a cat Chaussette (meaning sock), Mistigri or Felix (actually a cat food brand)

The most common ones I can think of would be Charlie, Leo, and Bella. A name I think would be cliche could be Tigger after Winnie the Pooh, but I dont hear that one being used very often...

35559 I finished my first book earlier today. It was the BOM book (so technically im a little ahead of schedule with it) but it was such a good book! I got sucked into it!

Onto my next book now!
35559 DQs 16 May: Prologue - The Husband Without a Wife

1. How are you liking the way the story is written with its alternating POVs ? Is there a POV you prefer ?

I was a little thrown off by the switching viewpoints at first if I'm not lying. It was all of the sudden, but I do like the calmness of this story. It's a lot different from the types of books I usually read. I definitely prefer Nana's point of view most likely because I never really think about what goes through a cat's head!

2. Through the flashbacks we get to know Satoru's personality a bit more. What do you make of him so far ? What did you think about his way of helping his friend Kosuke?

I think Satoru, in his youth at least, was cunning, but not always in a good way. He acted very spontaneously especially when he said that Kosuke was planning on jumping. I can't say I support going that far, but he did it for his friend which I can respect. He seems to always be there for the people that he cares about and has a lot of charisma.

3. Talking about Kosuke, what's up with his parents ? It seemed to me that Kosuke was genuinely convinced that his father would agree to keep the cat (Hachi). What did you think about his backstory ?

I hate Kosuke's dad. Maybe there was something that happened, but it is not ok to be that rude and aggressive towards your child. I think that the thing that happened with his dad was that he found he liked Hachi (like every dad does when they finally agree to getting a pet), but the idea of having to get another one scared him or something. aybe he thought Kosuke would leave the caring to him although I don't think that would've happened. Definitely a little confused about this; maybe he's just not a great parent.

4. Why do you think Satoru can't take care of Nana anymore ?

I am also very confused about this part. I originally thought maybe he lost his job and couldn't take care of him anymore, but maybe he found a wife whose allergic, or maybe he's dying :(. I have absolutely no clue at this point though.
