Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry - Adult / Non-fiction BOM June 2025 (starts 2 Jun)
(238 new)
Jun 02, 2025 04:42PM

Chapters 1 to 7
1.) Emily Henry is a popular contemporary romance author and a fair few of her books have been previous NBRC BOM selections. Any expectations for this book going in?
The female MC will be a happy sunshiny person who is covering some tragic backstory and the male MC will be a grumpy goose with a hidden heart of gold. Forced proximity will lead them to true love. It's a contemporary romance so probably some silly lack of communication will cause a rift that will be bridged by a grand gesture. The end. I'm sure I'll still enjoy it though. LOL And I'd be delighted if Henry tosses in some surprises!
2.) What are your first impressions of Alice? And sending that drink to Hayden?
She seems like a genuine good person who likes to be both nice and kind to everyone. A great friend to have but also not someone I could be around all the time, she's exhaust my introverted-self's social battery too quickly.
3.) Would you agree to the month long trial or tell Margaret she's a nutter and move on to something else? Why do you think Margaret is doing things this way?
As long as it didn't put me out of my day job, sure, why not? she'd be compensating me for my time and lodging. What would I have to lose? I'm not sure why Margaret is doing it this way, maybe to end up with a more interesting story? I'm sure it's something we'll learn by the end.
4.) After learning a few tidbits about Hayden's family and how he grew up, did you opinion change a bit on his character?
It explains his reserved nature and help fill in his character some. We honestly don't know all that much about him yet. Except that he's a decent guy enough that he's willing to step in and/or be aware of a woman's safety. And a talented author. That's not a lot to go on yet.

Sounds good, we'll keep shuffling books to meet with people's reading.
And thank you to everyone on the team for having such good communication! Erin, Lexi and I really appreciate it :)

That cleared out a lot though with such a long spelling :)

And don’t worry about how fast you read, we try our best to balance fast and slower readers on teams so it’s fair and fun for all reader types to participate!
As long as you are having fun and maybe picking up some good book recommendations, that’s what we hope for in putting these together

The Best Way to Bury Your Husband by Alexia Casale
A dark comedy about four women coming together to heal the damage their husbands have done––and hide their bodies once they’ve killed them
When Sally kills her husband with a cast-iron skillet, she’s more fearful of losing her kids than of disposing of a fresh corpse. That just wouldn’t be fair—not after twenty years of marriage to a truly terrible man. But Sally isn’t the only woman in town reaching the brink. Soon, Sally finds herself leading an extremely unusual self-help group, and among them there are four bodies to hide. Can they all figure out the perfect way to bury their husbands . . . and get away with it?
First to join is former nurse, Ruth, who met her husband as a single mom. Now her son is grown and her husband’s violence builds by the day until an attack on the stairs leads to a fatal accident—for him. A few doors down, Samira’s last straw comes when she discovers her husband is planning a campaign of violence against her eldest daughter, who has just come out. Janey, Sally’s best friend, has just had her first child at forty-two. Sleep-deprived Janey needs a hero to slay the monster in the fairy tales she whispers to her daughter each night . . . and as her husband’s violence escalates, it might just be her.
Together, fueled by righteous anger but tempered by a moral core, the four women must help each other work out a plan to get rid of their husbands for good. Along the way, Sally, Ruth, Samira and Janey rediscover old joys and embark on new passions in work, education, and life. Friendship and laughter really are the best medicine—and so is getting away with murder.

This really only matters if you end up pressing against your book cap +5 for month 1.
