35559 I'm looking for 2 books and willing to donate a Duplication Potions for each so that you don't have to give up any books / can use a book you've used for this cat quest.

• Explain a bear is eating the sun - read a book with bears
• Explain that the sky wolves nearly caught the sun and the moon - read a book where the moon and/or the sun is destroyed

Reward: 1 potion token per book (in addition to donated duplication potion)

35559 Knight Rebecca has finally returned to her cozy cottage after years of traipsing around the kingdom in search of magic, monsters, and familiars. Now she must inventory and rest and recharge before more battles in 2025

35559 Yayy!!

I finished my last book - A Lost Claus.
I don’t have access to the spreadsheet right now, can someone make it on the sheet? I’ve marked it read here.
35559 DQs Day 3 - Parts IV & V

10. When Alice gave birth to her second child, she had a mantra. "I will love this new baby." I found it very odd. What do you think about that? Do you find any deeper meaning in it?
It made me so very sad. She is still mourning and broken and I'm sure her husband forced her to have another child, looking for another son and heir (that seemed to be his only reason for having Bear in the first place). I can completely understand the trauma and pain of having a second child while you're still mourning your first.

  11. What do you think about Bear showing up? Could it be real? Just a vision/hallucination?I think it was a hallucination, but I bet it was foreshadowing that he is still alive. Or it was her guilt from listening to her husband and ignoring him.

  12. Do you think Barbara was "just" a name for Peter? Or could there be something he hides?I think it sounded like Bear and that's why he chose it.

  13. Louise got brutally beaten up. Toxic/abusive relationships seem to be a big factor in this book. Do you think that will have anything to do with the rest of the story and the reveal of the mystery?

reply | flagI think it's going to be a big part of the story... either the reason that something else happened (the silencing, mistreating of women who are then too distracted or have to keep secrets that are ultimately important) or it will be a direct thing. I just have noooo idea, but I wonder if Barbara ran away from an abusive relationship.
35559 Day 2 - 3 Dec
Parts II & III

6. The story is told through multiple characters and constant time jumps. Do you think it's working for the plot? If not, what would you change? Is it easy for you to keep track of the plot and characters? Is it impacting on your reading?

I think it is working to confused the heck out of me hahahah. But now I finally think I have the different POVs and timelines down (this is also partly due to the audiobook and the narrator making the characters sound very similar).  I don't think it;s impacting it because I am accepting that the author is trying to get us lost like the kids in the woods.

  7. We're introduced to the Van Laar family. What do you think of the mother (or the lack of her appearance so far) and the two Peter's? Do you think the grandfather or the father have a role in Bear's disappearance?I think the grandfather and father are sketchy as heck BUT they are obsessed with their legacy so if they were involved I think it would be an accident.  I honestly forgot the mother was even alive she is so in the shadows, BUT I am hoping that is a tactic and she will be important later.

  8. We're also introduced to Delphine who says to Alice that "that one is free to do what one wishes in life, expectations be damned”, that Alice can do more and that she is smart. What do you make of Alice's reaction to this? Do you think Alice will end up standing up for herself and speaking up?I love Delphine.  It also made me think that YES this is amazing thinking EXCEPT that it's not necessarily true for everyone because so many women are in abusive relationships and they are not free from danger if they do whatever they want.  I don't think Alice will stand up for herself ESPECIALLY after losing her son.

  9. I've noticed that the author has reduced the voice for a few characters. We see it with Alice from when she's 18 years old and with Tracey. Even with Louise as she's being asked questions by the Senior Investigator. Why do you think the author did this, especially with Alice and Tracey? Do you think Louise is like Alice and Tracey or very different? Have you noticed any other similarities between any of the characters?I kind of think she wants them to fade a bit in our mind and then bring them back for something important OR something they have already shared is important, but the author wants us to forget it for a shock.  I kind of forgot about Louise a bit, but I have hope for her (though her decision making with her "fiance" who is CLEARLY hiding her and lying to her is sad to read about). I think all of these women are not making the best decisions and being duped. They are being portrayed as weak women and I am so hoping for some redemption.
35559 Day 1- Part I
1.) Have you read any Liz Moore books before? Or, did you buy it to find out what the big drip of pink paint on the cover means?
I LOOOOOVED Long Bright River, even though it absolutely broke me and still kind of haunts me.
2.) Have you ever gone to (or been a counselor at) a summer camp or the like as a kid? Did you like it?
Is the setting of this book descriptive (or nostalgic) enough to bring you into the story?
I went to make years of summer church camp in the woods.  It definitely brings back memories and specifically I am thinking now about the counselors and how they were adults with whole lives that I never even thought of at the time. Also, our counselors were a bit younger, college aged.

3.) So far we have been introduced to just a few characters; a couple of campers, a couple of counselors, a couple of useless parents, and a boogey man. What do you think of them so far?I am loving the boogey man. Everyone else TBH I can't really decide how I feel and kept having to think through how they're all related in the story.

4.) How did you react to Louise not being very truthful about the night Barbara disappeared? How will it come back to haunt her (if it does)?I think it will... I am hoping she's not just the typical quiet friend who just keeps secrets but has no personality (in this story) of her own.

5.) If you have not read ahead, do you have any wild guesses about what happened to Barbara?
If you have read ahead, how do you like the way the story is unfolding?
It's odd to me that she wanted to be apart of the camp when she lives basically on the campus. What is it that she wants that she can't find/do from home.  I have no idea...

35559 Yay!!!! This is exciting!

I’ll be traveling for Thanksgiving with kids which means no audiobooks for about a week wahhhh. How rude of Thanksgiving to be scheduled during Wheel!
Nov 23, 2024 09:12AM

35559 I’m at kids sports today Hahha. But I finished my 2 open books if someone can mark them as today (I think I put them on my wheel shelf).

Any takers on any of the open Feeding the Family prompts?
Nov 22, 2024 12:47PM

35559 I also have a holiday office romance novella I can read as well.
Nov 22, 2024 12:11PM

35559 Ah so the books cannot be finished before we finish the minis, even if we wait to claim the points.

That makes it tricker and gives us way less time to get those original minis done. I will start the Tax Accountant one today.
Nov 22, 2024 11:21AM

35559 Also is there anyway to clarify - do the books for the newest mini have to be FINISHED after we complete the first 3 minis? Like can we work on that simultaneously while we finished the previous minis, but just can't report any points from it. Or can we not even start working on it until we declared the others finished?
Nov 22, 2024 11:09AM

35559 Also some books I've read that I recommend if anyone is interested

Hawaii - The Unhoneymooners (Unhoneymooners, #1) by Christina Lauren

Thailand - Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris

Mexico - Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
