35559 My spring bulbs are just coming up (HOORAY) so this one makes sense. Now which option to choose... Is Option 2 a scavenger hunt? And what is floriology?
Apr 03, 2018 12:24PM

35559 Somewhere you must have these answers but I can't find them. Maybe I need a decoder ring or a code whisperer.

Anyway, I get that:
MC means Main Character.
Shelved means readers have put it on a public "shelf" with that label. (Where are these listed?)
When you give a link to a list, the chosen book must be on that list.
Words "in the Text" means anywhere in the book.

But:
I'm guessing Tagged is like other internet tags, but where do I find the tags for each book? Are there tags for every book?
I'm also fuzzy on MPG. Does that mean that the GR page for that book includes the word in question on the list on the right, labeled GENRES? Whether or not I agree, correct? And how are Tags different from Shelves different from Genres?
On any single challenge, can a book only ever be used once? I'm asking because some of these challenges have so many, often complicated tasks, I don't see how I'd ever complete them. (Of course, I'm excluding Scavenger Hunts here.)

And as long as I'm here, when a challenge uses covers (for colors, an object in the art, whether it's "ugly"), can I "shop" for the cover I'd like to use in the Other Editions list, or should I use what I get? As I often request from my library, I never know what edition I get so it's hard to hunt for valid titles.

Thanks for the remedial help

[If a reference would help, I'm mostly looking at the Humor Challenge, but others too]

35559 Sounds like "FUN"! I'm in

5/31: That’s everything. But I had to move some choices around to finish on time, so I still have Cat's Cradle on my pile. Soon.
4/6: And speaking of FUN, it seems appropriate that finding FUN completes my first task.

Read a book tagged as "humor" ( spelling variations acceptable) Oreo
Read a book tagged as "funny" ( spelling variations acceptable) The Hippopotamus
Read a book tagged as "laugh-out-loud" Nuclear Jellyfish CD
Read a nominee from the 2017 Good Reads Choice Awards category Best Humor Stephen Colbert's Midnight Confessions (Hardly a “read” but my only practical option)
Read a book from the Best Humorous List Bite Me
Read a book from the Humorous Romance Books List Charlie All Night
Read a book with the word "fun" in the title. Fun House
Read a book with the word "fun" in the text.
--Ready Player One ... I'd received a bonus for my accent and inflection. I felt myself relax, and I realized I was already having fun.
Read a book with the word "funny" in the text.
--I Was Amelia Earhart It was fate and it was funny and it was making her angry.
--Now We Are Six And he sometimes likes to do it in a funny sort of squeak.
--"The Tomoshibi" in Other Voices, Other Vistas Although she was replying seriously, it still sounded so funny that the customers would unexpectedly burst out laughing.
Read a book with a character you find humorous. The Yellow Sofa Main character Godofredo Alves, who can't decide what he wanted
Read a book that made you laugh out loud. I laugh easily so, well, all of them. But for the purposes of this list When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?
Read a book that has the acronym "lol" in the text.
--Nuclear Jellyfish First off, @$#% the word blog. I hate it, and all who use it. LOL. IMO. Introspective yet spunky.
Read a book with the word "hilarious" in the text.
Read a book with the work "joke" in the text.
--Aunt Dimity and the Widow's Curse"... but to find myself the victim of a practical joke Will and Rob could have seen through is beyond demoralizing."
--The Hippopotamus "It isn't a joke, Clara."
--Charlie All Night "Don't joke about Allie. It annoys me."
--Moby-Dick
Read a book which has a clown make an appearance.
--The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse "What was that?" Jack asked Eddie. "Only a clockwork clown," said the bear.
Read a book with "clown " in the text.
--Nuclear Jellyfish CD I like clowns, and super-f#$ ladies on the beach.
--Bite Me Marilyn Manson needs to be dragged to death behind a clown car.
--Fun House The brightly colored building looks like a three-story-tall clown castle with striped turrets topped off with colored pompoms: jolly birthday party hats jutting up against the sky.
--Charlie All Night ...but then the rest of the people began to come out of the narrow hall in front of them, one by one, like clowns out of a toy car.
Read a book in which a character plays a joke on a friend. A Cook's Tour

I'm fuzzy on some of the rules. Do I get a +1 for every book I borrow or read online? Also, can books be used for multiple tasks (i.e., if there were a lot of vegetables mentioned in the book above that is used as the E in TREE)?

35559 COMPLETE!! I don't know where the extension card went, but I did try to attach it. Anyway, just finished the last piece. (Everything's better when you finish with a cookie!)

I didn't see this until mid-way through the month, so I'll probably be pulling out those extension cards. Meanwhile, let's see where I am.

The Secret Rose and Stories of Red Hanrahan by W.B. Yeats ◄ March is Irish American Month. Read a book that takes place in Ireland, or was written by an Irish author. (I got both here!)

The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood ◄ March is Women’s History Month. Read a book by a new to you female author, or a book with a strong female lead. (Another two-fer!)

The Hippopotamus by Stephen Fry ◄ March is said to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb. Read a book that starts out strong and wimps out to the end, or read a book featuring animals.(If you've read it, you know that the title/cover is NOT the most memorable animal in this story.)

Aunt Dimity and the Widow's Curse (Aunt Dimity Mystery #22) by Nancy Atherton ◄ The flower of March is the daffodil. Read a book that has a predominately yellow or white cover, or where the first letter of the title can be found in DAFFODIL.

I Remember Beirut by Zeina Abirached ◄ March was named for Mars, the Roman god of war. Read a book set in space, a book about war, or a book with a red cover.

Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank ◄ March: to walk in a military manner with a regular measured tread. Read a book where a character is very determined with moving towards their goal or a book with a character in the military.

Laughter of Dead Kings (Vicky Bliss, #6) by Elizabeth Peters ◄ March splits Pisces and Aries for zodiac signs. Read a book with water or fire on the cover, the final book in a series (Vicky Bliss #6), or the first book in a series.

Everyman by Philip Roth ◄ March Madness is the college basketball tournament performed each Spring in the US. Read a book featuring a sports team or someone who plays a sport.

The Big Book of Science Fiction by Ann VanderMeer ◄ March 2nd is Old Stuff Day. This is a day to try something new, break out of your routine, make a change! Read a book from a new genre or author. Break out of your reading rut!

Public Library and Other Stories by Ali Smith ◄ March 9th is Panic Day. Rather than freak out, read a book that calms you down! Alternatively, read a book that raises your blood pressure and makes you uncomfortable.

Oreo by Fran Ross ◄ March 12th is Girl Scout Day. Read a book with cookies in the title or on the cover, or read a book about a group of girls or a where a character does community service.

Ready Player One (Ready Player One, #1) by Ernest Cline ◄ March 14th is Pi Day, a day that celebrates Pi, the number that never ends. It’s often abbreviated to 3.14. Read a book with an average rating of 3.14 or higher, a book that was published in March of 2014 or a book featuring a mathematician or bakery.

A Catered St. Patrick's Day (A Mystery with Recipes, #8) by Isis Crawford ◄ March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day. Read a book written by an author named Patrick (first or last name) or with Patrick as the main character (Pat is acceptable). Alternatively, read a book where the main cover color is green or has alcohol on it.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson ◄ March 20th is the first day of Spring in the United States. Spring represents ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection and regrowth. Read a book where the main character undergoes a transformation of some kind or gives birth to something (a person, a new idea, a business).

Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde ◄ March 29th is National Smoke and Mirrors Day. Read a book where something isn’t as it seems or where the main character is hiding something.

Thanks
