Theme Book Of the Month
The theme for March will History (always repeats itself). Make of that what you will! A historical novel, a micro-history, time-travel or something else?
Nominations will be open until 27 January, UK evening
***Please pay special attention to the Rules and Guidelines listed below.***
Rules and Guidelines
1. Books nominated after the deadline will not be included in the polls. Sorry.
2. Each person is limited to nominating ONE book per category.
3. Please use the add book/author tool located at the top of the comment box when nominating a book. (Please make your nomination clear because side conversations do happen and we don't want to accidentally miss a nomination)
4. Please add the Goodreads synopsis for the book you nominate; you should also include an explanation of how it fits the theme for the month.
5. Books that were read as a past BOM will not be considered for the poll. (link to the sheet under the spoiler (view spoiler))
6. Books that are #2 or higher in a series will only be considered if all earlier books in the series have been a past BOM.
7. Books must be published at the time of nomination.
8. If your book is successful in being picked as the BOM you are expected to actively participate in the discussion. This will include writing a set of DQs as well as engaging in conversations.
The BOM nominations are for our members to nominate a book they are truly interested in and have no affiliation with. Promotional activity is NOT permitted and nominations that the Moderators perceive to be promotional will be deleted without warning ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

teeheeno worries. I've updated the "how to play" above also in case anyone else also has the same question

Our Upside Down challenge for January is back and sign ups openJanuary 2024 Upside Down Individual Challenge

Summer is upon us in the Southern hemisphere and we invite you to get a bit topsy turvy, upside down, and jumbled up joining this challenge for one month only;
from 1 January 2024 - 31 January 2024
This is an Individual challenge, but you are playing for:
>Meeting your own goal of books read (a minimum of 3 for the month, there is no maximum)
>Points against everyone else who signs up. (you may wish to have a friendly side competition with those with equivalent book goals!)
IMPORTANT
You will need to be able to access and edit Google Sheets to join this challenge. We will give you a template, but you need to use it to track your books and your points.
We work on an honour system, so we are not asking you to submit your spreadsheets for review, but all sheets need to be accessible for viewing by all players.
ABOUT
Sign up using this form: https://forms.gle/1GevtUBeEyg2DhhD7
and we will send you a google tracking sheet that you will use to track your challenge. This will feed into a main tracking sheet here:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
that will track the points of all players.
Sign ups close on January 6, 2024.
1. HOW TO PLAY
You are given a list of tasks to choose from for January here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
that have points allocated to them as 10, 20, 50 or 100. It is up to you which tasks you decide to cover in the month, but you must choose a minimum of one 100 point and two 50 point tasks.
Each task can only be completed once.
2. POINTS TRACKING
Players are responsible for tracking their own points by using the Google Sheet template provided. (Once you sign up we create you an individual sheet to enter your books)
This will feed into the overall tracking spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
3. BOOK REQUIREMENTS
Books must be started on or after 8am, January 1st, 2024, AEDST to count for this challenge. Click here for the countdown: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
All books must be read by 11.59pm, January 31, 2024 AEDST (countdown: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...)
Re-reads are ok provided it has been more than 6 months since you last read the book.
The minimum page requirement is 100 pages unless a task specifies differently.
Unless otherwise specified in the task, (some lower point tasks will allow this) the following books can NOT be used:
* Comic / Graphic / Magna
* Cookbooks
* Textbooks
* Travel Guides
* Poetry
* Poems
* Childrens / Middle Grade novels and plays/screenplays can only be used where you can verify the word count through AR BookFind as 25,001 words or more. If you can't verify it with that site, you can check if audible or overdrive has the unabridged version as more than 3 hours. If you can't verify either, then you can't use it (unless the specific task says you can)
2024 winner has been posted https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The Way of Kings won, closely followed by Shogun and Wanderers
