yeah there are about a million incryptid short stories and i've only read a few of them so i'm sure several of them feature alice prominently. and i'm not sure why exactly they have the mice, although i'm sure it's been mentioned. i think it's basically just like 'they found them and were actually nice to them and then the mice worshipped them and just never left'. i wonder if alice fills the mice in on all her adventures when she comes homes, because verity said they were still doing new rituals for her and stuff. and i'll request the new thread for sunday then

finally done! even though it took me awhile to get through this time this is definitely one of my faves in the series. i agree that the whole dance show aspect drags on after awhile but i figured that might just be because i've never felt the need to watch a dance show in my life lol but i think it was necessary in order for verity to really get it out of her system and prove to herself that she made the right choice. and yes (view spoiler) and i guess she is the only one who doesn't have any mice, at least in the immediate family. because the three kids have them and then the rest of the mice stay home with the parents. i guess the various aunts/uncles/cousins don't count to the mice because most of them are not human or 'technically' really related? not sure. i hope sarah has some for some reason in the new book though because it just wouldn't be the same without them. maybe artie has some and he tags along with her? i forget everyone parentage most of the time but artie is half human and actually blood related to verity right?
and yeah i did not remember that ending AT ALL but we've established i'm horrible at solving / remember mysteries lol (view spoiler)
not sure what happened to claudia or what we want to do with the next one. i guess maybe wait till next week and start if we haven't heard from her? or maybe there's a standalone we could read if you just wanted to do something else this week. if we're not totally caught up by the release of the new one i don't have to read it right away so i can definitely wait til we're done with our reread.

and another one★★★☆☆ How Nuth Would Have Practised His Art Upon the Gnoles
another very short one here. i feel like a lot of these early stories are just me rating them all 2.5 and trying to decide whether to round up or down lol but i did find this one interesting and i think it had a more 'modern' narration style with like less flowery language and more action than some of the others and also with the narrator addressing the reader directly. would have actually liked for this one to be a bit longer but alas

i'm through chapter 9 so slowly getting there. although i have no idea what happened to claudia so i guess no need to rush lol i really love (view spoiler)
finally finished! millennium level! i reread a short story to finish off 2009 because i was just so over being stressed out with this hanging over my head but i can't believe i finally got there. right now i'm all 'definitely gonna chill out and choose a lower level this year' but i know that whenever that actually starts my competitive side is gonna take over again lol

yeah i remember liking the first two antimony books but not so much on the third one so i'm interested to see if that stays the same on my reread. i think it's probably good she got her own pov though because she just seems really bratty in the glimpses we get here

yeah, and it's been awhile since i listened to the first two books but it seems like she's changed it since then and somehow made it even weirder lol but yeah (view spoiler)gonna wait until i finish to read your other spoiler cut because it's actually been awhile since i've read this so i don't remember the details lol it might be a couple days but i'm making slow progress! on chapter 5 now but i can listen to these at 2x speed

finally did another one of these today★★☆☆☆ “Casting the Runes,” 1911, M.R. James
it really isn't a bad story and it's probably more of a 2.5 but unfortunately this entire thing just seemed to go in one ear and right out the other. like i literally just read it and all i could say was 'uh, they were trying to solve some kind of mystery?'. i'm sure some of that is my own mental state lately but there was just not a single thing that made an impression on me. kind of disappointing since the writer of the magnus archives podcast has said he uses m.r. james for inspiration and i really love that podcast so i was planning on trying to read more of his work.

yeah it's like she tried to combine them and just ended up in 'no one has ever talked like that ever' land. he probably should have a predominantly british accent since he grew up there ...and also it's just easier for most americans to do a british accent than italian i would say so like if it made it sound better i would sacrifice 'accuracy' loli only listened to the first few chapters tonight but i'll get into it more tomorrow. apparently this was the first one i rated 5 stars so i'm interested to see if it stands up to my memories

yeah i'm gonna start either today or tomorrow hopefully. i have once again been getting distracted with podcasts. and children's tv shows lol apparently there were 2 new seasons of she-ra last year that i didn't know about -_-; but will definitely try to get on this!
yeah i'm reading my last book for 2005 right now and then i need two for 2009 but luckily i've got several to choose from. idk why 2004 was such a bad year for me but i struggled so much to find 4 measly books for it lol. i won't reread just any book but there are some series i don't mind revisiting if enough time has passed.
i've literally got 3 left and i'm struggling so much lol. next year i think i'm just gonna do whatever because getting to the top level this year has definitely been a bit more than i could really handle. i feel like i spent hours trying to find books from 2004 to read then i ended up having to just reread one anyway -_-;

re: the screaming skull. haha yes he did tend to go on a bit more than i thought was strictly necessary but i think that was kind of the style back then. (view spoiler)re: sredni vashtar. it does seem like it would be more of an introduction to something larger rather than something to stand on its own. i guess maybe the 'point' is to raise questions but after those two longer stories it just really threw me on how short it was.
and yeah i'm wondering if this saki guy was like an early 20th century version of a weeaboo lol like 'ok i'm gonna have a cool japanese pen name and name my story something vaguely indian sounding'. although when i put 'Sredni Vashtar' into google translate it says it's bulgarian but also just translates it to 'middle vashtar' so idek. interesting that the story was adapted into so many mediums though since it's so short. i guess maybe it was good for a beginning idea and then other people could build off it how they wanted.
re: the wiilows. we have a few rivers around here and they are very slow moving usually but when it rains all bets are off lol my injury wasn't even when there was a lot of water, it was actually when it was really low and we had to get out and walk our floats over a really shallow bit and there was a ledge i didn't realize and i slipped off it and cut my foot really deep on the rock. my roommate's was when it was really fast but also we were being dumb and like playing in the fast part because ~ooh water slide~ and he went under and knocked his teeth out. AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HE HAD FAKE TEETH. he came up and he was like 'i lost my teeth' and i was like EXCUSE ME???? apparently he lost them all in a car wreck and just never told me lol

ok cool :) the willow story is definitely the longest one i had scheduled for this month so once you get through that i think it will seem more manageable lol
