The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box.
But when the Eastwood sisters--James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna--join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement. Stalked by shadows and sickness, hunted by forces who will not suffer a witch to vote-and perhaps not even to live-the sisters will need to delve into the oldest magics, draw new alliances, and heal the bond between them if they want to survive.
There's no such thing as witches. But there will be.
Gone by Michael Grant
In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young.
There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened.
Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your 15th birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...

Welcome everyone to Team Rob Anybody. I haven’t read the Discworld series books so I don’t really know about him. If you do please share with the class. Please let us know that you have found this group by posting below and maybe share what you are most excited about doing in this challenge. I think I am most excited to write a Jackanory using books we read.

Well...I am going stir crazy so I'm hitting the local casino to pull some slots...wish me luck ladies. going with a strict budget so I don't blow a wad
I've heard great things about DISCWORLD. I'm going to wait and see if that is the TT "theme" this year, because if it is, maybe it will be worth more points to read the books then!!
Sally906 wrote: "Is that first word in title or text? I’m presuming title!I have plenty of titles that start with ‘The’ so can go for that"
Great question Sally.
It's actually in the text of the book, so that does make it a bit more difficult. I'll have to go through my upcoming books to see if the text starts with "the" in any of them.
