At first glance you see how you can go from disliking a character to being their champion in the end. At first Devon acts like a , like a Rake with his thoughts on what to do with the lands. I like Katherines spunk and maturity and how she handles what she over hears Devon tell his brother.

16&17 June
Chapters 1-8

1. The opening line of this book had me really sit up and take notice! Did it hit you in the face too? What's your favourite opening line from a novel? (Mine is Anna Karenina: "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way"

The opening was interesting wording to me. My favorite although i've never read the book is... It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

2. The Author's Note at the front says to skip it and return only if you need it. So.. I skipped it. (I'm not big on spoilers). How about you? Did you skip it, or read it?

I skipped it, I figured I could always go back if it was important.

3. How are you finding the style? Do you like the flashbacks into Nona's past?

It gets a little confusing between the flashbacks and her dreams. That being said, I like flashbacks as it helps fill in the story.

4. Raymel Tacsis is "surrounded by Academy men sweating to keep him from death". Would you want people to try and save you like this, given the risks?

Honestly, yes. I think everyone wants to feel safe and would do alot to make it so.

5. What do you think of the world building? I'm finding it quite intriguing. And I love the names of the Sisters (flint, apple, wheel!). What name would you give yourself?

Not sure about world building or the names. I would give myself a real people name. Growing up Catholic I had a real reverence of nuns and their vows.

6. Initial thoughts - are you enjoying the book so far? Any favourite characters?

So far, so good. Really loving Nonna and her instinct to learn and not show her hand.
