35559 DQs - Day 3

9 . What do you think on the creatures from the dungeon dimensions? Do you find them creepy?
--- Not really, I didn't think much of them.

10. I enjoyed the Esk’s thoughts about being both witch and wizard and wanting to defend the one to the other. Do you sympathize with this view (more in general than in specific regards to magic fields)?
--- The are the same but different sides of the coin. That was a very wise thought on her part.

11. Why do you think Esk’s magic did not work?
--- I think when she concentrates too hard it doesn't work. But when she has a spontaneous thought it triggers the staff more easily.

12. Esk is supposed to be precocious but also nine years old. Do you think she acts in a way you could see a nine year old acting?
--- I don't remember being nine but I think I was more grown up at that age.

As a member of Team Ook, the bonus question is: Is not the librarian wonderful and would you want to be turned back in his place?
--- He reminded me of Planet of the Apes but I would want to be myself,
35559 DQs Day 2

Starting with a Bonus question...
“They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it is not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.” (Granny said)
First off, who are “they”? I have always wanted to know. Secondly, do you agree with “them”?
--- They is a collective of everyone you have ever met or will meet. They are the ones who you remember in certain situations. I agee that ignorance is not the way to live your life. With knowledge you are able to learn and adapt.

5. Esk went ahead and did not follow Granny’s advice, and thought since she had a feeling she could get into the bird’s brain, then why not do it.
When you were a kid, did you jump off the swing, or touch the hot burner? If so, give us examples.
Do you think she learned something from it, or are we looking at shades of her future University life?
--- As a kid I put my hand through a window while running even though I was told not to. I fell off a swing and split my head for the same reason. I think this is who she is and will serve her well to be curious.

6. What do you think of Hilda and her version of Headology? What do you think of Headology in general?
--- I love it and I love her. There are many things that are head games and I found her funny and likeable.

7. Esk finds herself on a moving barge. Loved loved loved the resume of talents beyond washing and sweeping that Esk rattles off in an attempt to stay on the boat. What skills could you bring to the barge?
--- I can sleep anywhere. I can find all sorts of useful items in my purse. I can speak another language.

8. Speaking of the barge, what do you think of Esk’s decision to just leave Granny? Did she mean to leave on her own adventure, or was it an accident? Do you think her matter of fact attitude is a product of her magic, or just her personality or upbringing?
--- She is a curious child and when tokd not to do something will go right ahead and do it.
35559 DQs - Day 1

1. If you are new or relatively new to Discworld, what do you think of Pratchett’s world and writing style so far? For more experienced Pratchett readers, what are your favorite things about his writing style or Discworld in general?
--- First time reading this author, was a little hard at first to follow breaks in story but used to it now. It's not really my style of book but so far so good.

2. So we have our plucky heroine Esk and her witchy mentor Granny Weatherwax. What do you think of our two main characters and their relationship with each other?
--- I like both characters and they compliment each other well. Glad to know my team name has spunk and lijes to wing it a lot.

3. A major theme is witch magic vs. wizard magic (and women vs. men), and I can’t wait to learn more about these different magical theories and world views. What do you think of this dynamic, and which type of magic are you more drawn to?
--- Women's magic is more subtle.

4. Oh dear. Esk went a bit too far with the borrowing. What do you think is going to happen next? And what will Granny say or do?
--- That was a normal response and probably something most would do. Granny enjoys Esk so she would do the same thing again, try to protect her.

Bonus: I am really enjoying Pratchett’s wit so far. What is your favorite quote from this first bit? Mine is:
“What’s an elephant?”
“A kind of badger,” said Granny. She hadn’t maintained forest-credibility for forty years by ever admitting ignorance.
--- Life is for the living.

35559 Hi guys, now working on 4 books. Hoping to finish Equal Rites by this weekend and that will be my 8 books for the month. Will fit in extras due to long weekend. My books thus month have been very good reads. I don't know about BOM for next month they don't seem interesting but will try to get them in somehow.
35559 DQs Day 1 - Chaps 1 - 10

1. What do you think of Willowdean? Does she feel like a sufficiently real person?
Yes she is as real as any young person. She reminds me of my niece who has always been chubby but so loveable due to her caring, friendly nature.

2. What you you think about her relationship with Ellen? They are starting to keep secrets from each other now - do you think that this is the start of a drifting apart or will they stay close?
Ellen is her #1 and they will always be close no matter what ups and downs they go through. I have an Elken and no matter how close you are I think there are secrets that you still keep from each other.

3. Bo is interesting - the opposite of Will in terms of being reserved in comparison to her chattiness, but with something lurking in his backstory. Do you want to have a guess at what's up with him? Would anyone NOT have done the same as Will and followed him to the abandoned school in the hopes of more making out?!
I don't know about this. She is bold and goes after what she wants.

4. Will claims ownership of "fat" when she introduces herself to Bo. How successful do you think she is in her aim to stop it from being an insult?
As a bigger woman myself I found this to be a true declaration and not insulting at all. Sometimes you just hace to put your truth out there.

5. Lucy has clearly been a big influence in both Will and Ellen's lives, and yet they haven't been talking about her at all since her death. Do you think this is a normal reaction to a sudden death? Would you be like Will's mother, and get rid of everything, or keep it?
I found it odd that not more is talked about her as she feels like a supporting character in the book. When someone suddenly dies it is my experience that you start talking more in rememberance. She will regret throwing all her stuff out.
