35559 My (South African) BiL cites The Power of One as one of his favourite books. Until that point I'd never heard of Courtenay

If we don't mind waiting a bit, I could read Don Quixote (p2 of the list)

35559 NEW TASK

44 Read a book that is on the The Worst Books of All Time List
Jun 03, 2025 04:06AM

35559 yes, Sally, please do keep reading books - longer ones if you want ;-P - as we can use up to 17 from you for the first month of the challenge :)
Jun 02, 2025 08:19AM

35559 @Sally: similar warning - you have read 11 of MAX 17 books
Jun 02, 2025 06:45AM

35559 @Christene: just a warning - you have read 10 of MAX 17 books now - the cap resets at 17 June!
You've been fab at reading long books, so keep on that track. We may need to prioritise some of your future books though so we can maximise page points (the most valuable part) together with mini points. Long books from tricky countries would be amazing ;-)

35559 As a heads-up, to finish off United States we only need:
- stars on cover
- N spell out
- A spell out

Do flag up any As or Ns in your finished books :)

35559 A trio of TT prompted clearances:
Black Moses by Alain Mabanckou Congo Brazzaville. I preferred this to the other of Mabanckou's that I read.
Small Country by Gaël Faye Burundi. I liked this one a lot - definitely felt the growing up in Burundi vibes but it's not light reading as it heads into the Rwanda genocide era
Playing for Freedom The Journey of a Young Afghan Girl by Zarifa Adiba Afghanistan. terrifying how driven Zarifa is, the amount she has achieved in her life. was not an ego-boosting read!

35559 noooooooooo!

I am technically above the line, but was away so didn't update my closet books!

:(

35559 We have cleared off the latest cheese! :)

35559 I found Nepal book, and also Sri Lanka (which will mean it joins Croatia on the can't use for mini 1 again)
35559 Rosemarie wrote: "I want to join and read this book but am lost as how this works. Any guidance or, if it already exists, where can I look into getting the info?"

Hi Rosemarie, there's some information here, but the short version is that we've broken the book down into sections, and on each day people post a set of questions to act as prompts for discussion. Read along and answer the questions - at the same pace as the breakdown, or at your own pace. We only ask that you try to avoid spoilers if you read faster than the breakdown!

It looks a bit more complicated because of the team challenge going on, but that part is over now - it's just read, chat and enjoy (we hope!)
