35559 Totally up to you. If I do the Ware one I can only commit to one. We have a few extra days though so that’ll be good.

35559 All Good People Here

Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the case of January Jacobs, who was found dead in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist, but she’s always been haunted by the fear that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

When Margot returns home to help care for her sick uncle, it feels like walking into a time capsule. Wakarusa is exactly how she remembered: genial, stifled, secretive. Then news breaks about five-year-old Natalie Clark from the next town over, who’s gone missing under eerily similar circumstances. With all the old feelings rushing back, Margot vows to find Natalie and solve January’s murder once and for all.

But the police, the family, the townspeople—they all seem to be hiding something. And the deeper Margot digs into Natalie’s disappearance, the more resistance she encounters, and the colder January’s case feels. Could the killer still be out there? Could it be the same person who kidnapped Natalie? And what will it cost to finally discover what truly happened that night?

In the propulsive debut novel from the host of the #1 true crime podcast "Crime Junkie," a journalist uncovers her hometown’s dark secrets when she becomes obsessed with the unsolved murder of her childhood neighbor—and the disappearance of another girl twenty years later.

35559 might be fun just one because we have so many "one" titles!

I also like ending is "his" from One Day Like This or "you" from One Day with You

I'm down for whatever for that one! I'd love to read one book for this battle round; that's all I can handle in 1 week. I'll read one of the later ones though.

35559 @Laura yes I’m reading the Kitty Karr book and I should be done by the 15. However, the Google MPG states fiction, not specifically literary fiction so idk if it works. I won’t be done with Unbound Empire (YA) by then.

35559 I'm working on Only If You're Lucky which is MPG Mystery or Thriller.
Also can read The Unbound Empire which is book 3 for one of the walls. I can probably get one more read in the 2 weeks that the challenge goes but I won't commit until I'm sure.

35559 I Can read for several MPGs, not paranormal or horror lol.
I also have a series book 3 and I probably have other options, I never read kingdom of Ash book 7 so I can read that if needed. I Can definitely do a nonfiction - it’ll be a little short. When does it need to be read by?
35559 Judith I think you’re right. In part 3 I can feel the terror and fear when the threats present themselves, and could feel it whenever the government killed someone for even a show of rebellion. It was almost hard to understand how a rebellion could start at all, but I thought about the sheer numbers and how one little spark can set off a huge reaction.

I also remember how much I hated the plot the first time around because it was so heavy and depressing.
35559 Sammy wrote: "Just finished part 2.

She kind of alludes to this at one point - that all she thinks about is how certain things will impact her. She tries to be selfless in her actions but she wonders is it still to an end that benefits her? ie - protecting Peeta because SHE can't live in a world without HIM? I do enjoy her introspection but it's interesting how many times she comes up empty and can't answer herself.
35559 Working through part 3 now.

After reading the Hunger Games in June, my edition had an interview with Suzanne Collins at the back that I read, and she had some insights about Gale and Peeta that is influencing how I read book 2. She said that Gale represents hostility in the face of oppression and hardship and Peeta represents diplomacy and she hopes to inspire thought and discussion around the two viewpoints and values.

Would you guys say Katniss is an unreliable MC or just uninformed? With what she doesn't know about the rebellion and how the districts are gathering and responding, she feels powerless and at first resolves to run away. She's acting and responding out of hurt and mistrust.

I also forgot that District 13 is mentioned in book 2, I kind of thought based on my recollection that Katniss has no idea about 13 until after the end of book 2. But she's told there may be a District 13 in part 2 of Catching Fire.

Also I'm blanking on what Plutarch Heavensbee was trying to achieve by showing Katniss his timepiece with the hidden mockingjay. Is he trying to tell her he's on her side? Obviously she's oblivious.

Still working through part 3 so I haven't finished it yet.

35559 nice work to you both! I was super surprised I got mine finished before Friday but now it means I might be able to sneak 1 or 2 more in before end of June. I'm part of another more specific challenge that's REALLY hard so combining these two challenges may have been a mistake haha... we'll just see how the rest of the summer goes!
