Great. I have several book that I haven't listed yet to fill in with, too. So it's all good. :)

This is supposed to be fun. As I said before, life happens. People get sick or emergencies come up or the temp hits 72 and you can't stay inside... Don't feel bad for a slightly slower start. This is an 8 week challenge, more like a 10 K run than a sprint.

Just take care of yourself, OK?

No problem. I'll go make the change.

35559 I've finished 4 books. I had several almost done, so they went fast. And it did nothing but rain all afternoon and evening, so I had plenty of time inside to read. Tomorrow should be sunny and warm and I'm planning on getting out to enjoy it. :)

It looks like we'll end up with 4 sets of BRICKRED and perhaps a few books left over. That's really awesome!

Paula,

I noticed you've added a couple more books to your list. That's great, if you can read them. But you don't have to read a book for every letter yourself. We'll combine all of our books. So if you're not pretty sure you can read all of them it might be better to wait a few days before adding them. I was planning on adding some books I read to finish this set out.

Plus, we don't have to complete the last set of letters to get credit for the last few books we read. We might read BRICKRED 3 times and then read books for B, I and D. We'd get credit for those last three books.

Does that make sense?

That's OK. I'm sometimes surprised by how many books have the same title. :) The safest way to avoid confusion is to just link when you can.

Hurray, Kay!

Our first book is finished. We now have 10 points. And the game has really begun... :)

35559 Here's what the mods said about the question of who or what can count as a character:

"A character really just needs to have some dialogue and meaning to the story.
So, for example, I am reading a book where she sees her bike, Gladys, as a person and talks to her as a person. But I would not count that as a character as it is an inanimate object that has no dialogue and doesn't have meaning to the story (it is just a bike!). But a book told from an animals POV, then the animal may well be a character.
So your talking computer may also be a character by that definition, just as Bob the talking skull would be a character in the Dresden Files, or Seraphina the talking dragon is a character in Eragon.

What we are trying to avoid is a reference to a person or animal in a book counting as a 'character'. So use your judgement basically."

So Eddie from Hitchhiker's is definitely a character. :)

35559 Here are the books I have Paula reading and the letters I have so far:

I'll Give You the Sun B-Bryan (character), I- title

City of Glass I-Isabelle, C-title

The 5th Wave R- author, C-Cassie (char), E- Evan (char)

Which Percy Jackson book is it?

Which Endgame? There are several books by that title.

Thanks!

Welcome, Paula. I'll be sending you a few private messages everyone else has already received. We're glad to have you join us!

You're English is better than my any-other-language, so no worries. Yes, books for this round must basically be finished sometime on the 28th, depending on time zones where you are. We'll have an official cut-off day and time and message everyone with it later. When we figure out what we're doing. This is my first Wheelathon, so I don't really know much...

Thanks for posting the books you plan to read. If you find those books can work for other letters in BRICKRED please let us know. It helps me when I'm arranging the books.

Welcome again!

I adore OverDrive. I live in a rural county with one part time library that has fewer books than I do. Seriously. I used to pay big bucks and drive distances to use the nearest city library system. Now I have thousands of books available from home. It's free. It's easy. It's amazing.

You're welcome to marry it as long as you don't restrict my access. Especially late at night when I can't sleep...

Yes, I thought it was ironic that he dies just when I discovered his books. :(

One of the things I like about them is that you don't have to read them in order, apparently. I'm dependent on OverDrive for most of my books, so I have to wait just like at any library. I like series that can be read in any order.

35559 OK, here's what I have for Dana:

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West B- Boq (character), I- Irji (char), C- Clutch (char), E- Elpheba (char), D- Dorothy (char)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy B- Beeblebrox (char), R- Rontok (char), E- Eddie (char), D- author

The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic  B- Author, I- Ilissa (char), C- Author, R- Raclin (char), E- Author

I Am Half-Sick of Shadows B- Author, I- Title, D- Daffy (char) Also, cover is very red. :)

I know the general rule is a character has to speak at least one line in the book. I'm going to double check with the mods about talking non-people being characters. Eddie's the computer, but he's very much a character in my mind.

Those books help a lot. They'll definitely get us to one more BRICKRED Thanks, Dana!

Welcome, Dana! We're so glad to have you join us. I happen to like humor. As a matter of fact, I like cheese, too... :)

I live in the Mid-South and our reading interests are quite similar. We've just been talking about how challenges make our TBR lists get longer, not shorter. I'll bet you read some books I end up adding to my list, too. :)

If you like Hitchhiker's you might also like Terry Pratchett. Have you tried him before? I'd only read one Disc World novel decades ago and remember it as OK, but I recently listened to the Tiffany Aching books and now I'm on the Witches series. In fact, I just finished Witches Abroad (Discworld, #12; Witches #3) by Terry Pratchett a few minutes ago and gave it 5 stars. He makes me giggle. Or just laugh out loud. And he never demeans his characters, which I like.

So, I'm off to add your books to the spread sheet. Thanks so much for jumping in. As you read the books and find more characters names that fit BRICKRED please come back and add them. That way if we need to make last minute changes it will be easier.

Oh, I'll also send you our "It's started" message.

Welcome again.

You're in good company, I'm sure. Though yours is especially long. :)

I joined a particular challenge to get my TRB pile down and it doubled in size because the others were reading so many good looking books. :)
