11. The fantasy genre is known for its world building. How do you feel about the world building in this book? How does it compare to other fantasy novels you’ve read?
The world building is okay. Honestly, there isn't much there and it's not very original. It is just another heaven/hell with earth as the neutral battleground setting. I like that the use of magic has to come from another plane of existence. That's pretty new. I'm a little confused if this is Earth as we know it or another Earth, because he talks about physics. Physics as we understand it. However, if we knew other planes truly existed and that pockets could be opened up between them, wouldn't that change our understanding of physics. I don't know. The best bit about this story is the characters and action, not the worldbuilding.
12. In this section we meet Cade’s former teacher Hazidan. What do you think of her character? Did you ever have a favorite teacher and were they similar to Hazidan in any way?
I think she's a little cray-cray. And is she not just using Cade as a puppet too? Is Alice just to help level the playing field? Or is there something more? None of my teachers were that important to me. I liked many of them and still remember them to this day, and they taught me alot, but no, no Hazidan among them.
13. Chapter 25: Friends in Low Places had a pretty big reveal about the Celestials plans and how they’ve been herding Cade this whole time. How did you feel about this twist?
Liked it. Obviously, I want to know what they are planning now even more!
14. At this point I think we have the whole team together: Is one of them your favorite?
Mister Bones. I think he is going to turn into a man.
Bonus for audiobook listeners: How are you liking the audiobook? Would you recommend it?

Mine went a bit weird, too. I wasn't getting everything though I have notifications on. I only knew to check this group because it's not without something for a few hours.

🤣🤣🤣
Aren't partners fab.

Ch 9 to 18
6.) Did Galass turning into a blood mage and Fidick being the cause of Lucian's death (I assume that's what the black cloud that left the tent did) surprise you? Or were you expecting their bit in the story to be over and just a footnote about Cade's character?
I knew they were involved in Lucian's death. I had assumed they'd somehow contacted Tenebris. However, I didn't expect Fiddick to die and Galass to become a blood mage. I thought they'd somehow end up on the road with them, but maybe as his unwanted but couldn't abandon "baggage."
7.) We learn about more magic types and there's pretty much any type of magic you can dream up. What type of magic you like to have or what animal would you like an affinity with?
They all sound pretty horrible. If sort of take a part or alot of what you are, not just who. I think I'd want some sort of harmless ability like making rainbows appear. Or turning things to glitter.
8.) Is anyone else's favorite character Mr. Bones? Just me? mkay.
Mr Bones is pretty adorable. I also like Rat Man. He's entertaining.
9.) At this point I think it's clear Cade is a fallen Glorian of some sort, likely a Justicar. Do others agree with my guess here or do you have other thoughts?
Very much agree.
10.) Assuming my guess in Q9 is right, why do you think Cade got the heave ho from the Glorians?
Oh, did he piss of one of the Lords Celestine? One is probably his dad and he got angry. Honestly, i haven't figured it out.

1. The book has the MPG Dark Fantasy. Do you like this genre in general? If so, do you have any favourite authors or books?
A. I love all fantasy- urban, paranormal, high, dark. Granted, I haven't read much dark fantasy to my knowledge. But I thoroughly enjoyed Mark Lawrence's Prince of Fool's trilogy and it doesn't get much darker than that. Jorg and excellent anti-hero. Fingers crossed Cade it the same. Though I suspect he has a heart. Also, the Charlie Parker Series is very very dark, but not as fantasy as these, though there are fantasy elements to it.
2. The book starts with the quote above. Is this your mental image of a wizard, too? Or something different? :)
A. Yep, I can't help but picture Gandalf or Dumbledore. Even though many a wizard doesn't dress like this. Alex Verus, Peter Grant, Harry Dresden, not a robe or big, pointy, floppy hay in sight.
3. And the author lands us in the middle of a siege (ideal for the Book Games, right? ;) with 2 of the main characters Cade Ombra and Corrigan Blight. Cade is narrating what is happening and offering us his views on good and evil, the part they are playing and how they "win" this particular siege.
Do you think it's a strong start to the book? Has it got you intrigued?
A. Yes, very. It moves along at a good pace. I really want to know what the artefact is, wht happened to Galass and her brother, and what wil become of Indigo. He's not a nice man.
4. As an extra incentive & entertainment, the Ascendant Lucien offers young girls and boys (sublimes) to the wanderists after the siege. We get introduced to Fiddick and Galass and learn that Cade decided to kill Lucien. We can actually start putting some pieces of Cade's character together. What do you think about him at this point?
A. I will reserve judgement. I suspect he has a heart and thar he is in this line of business because her was driven to it out of necessity. However, he is mercenary, so his hands are very unclean. I like him though, good or bad.
5. Some demonic highlights to this introductory part: Tenebris the demon, with whom Cade as an "infernalist" mage trades with to get his spells.
What were your impressions of Tenebris? How do you find the "religious/magical" system of the Infernals and the Celestines?
A. Ahh, the old angels vs devils trope. This has been so overdone, but so have vamps and werewolves. Guess no one wants sexy bigfoot stories. The Chupacabra lacks some masculine sexual quality that is inherent in a wolf-man. And the age old good vs evil, north celestial vs southern brimstone pit, tale can be a doozy (see Daughter of Smoke and Bone or The Foundling series. I'm not a fan of creepy angels, but I love a humorous devil, so hopefully Tenebris will appear more. I do like that his demon is a pretty common demon stereotype, the sort of English dandy or gentleman.

Thanks, Jenny. That is what I thought but, honestly, ever since my glaring error on book dates. I don't trust my eyes!
