Hey everyone. I hope everyone's doing well. Sorry I've been a bit absent from this chat.

I've been busy with my exams and various buddy reads. My trick is to read as much as I can in the morning and study in the afternoon until evening. I still have one exam on monday and then the fun can start with my master thesis... Really not looking forward to that. The good thing about it though, is that I'll be able to use the textbooks I read for research for the challenge. (already started one actually. London: The Biography, a 800 pages book, so yay for that).

The last two days, however, were kind of break days and I could catch up in my BRs. I managed to read both Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay for Bonus BR points. Rereading the Cursed Child was kind of a pain. The first time I read it I enjoyed it, but since then I read so many reviews pointing out everything that's wrong about it, which I couldn't ignore in my reread. It was very irritating.

I also discovered Written in Red, which quickly became one of my favorite books. I really love it and am looking forward to buddy read the second book this weekend.

Right now I'm in the middle of Red Rising and I'm starting Ready Player One tonight. I know Red Rising is a really popular book but for some reason I'm not into it. The beginning (view spoiler)[with the woman in refrigirator trope, i.e. a woman that just killed of as a plot devise, to make the main male character react (hide spoiler)] just really annoyed me.

That's an issue I also have with the book. Because of that I'm not enjoying it as much as all booktube seems to. But I'll try to finish it.

Personally I take that as a reflection of the period in which it really wasn't safe to be an unmarried woman travelling alone in time of war. Plus Black Jack Randall is an asshole who tries to rape everyone. He must somewhere at the top of my most hated villains list. (hide spoiler)]

That's a good description! (view spoiler)[Like you said a lot of it has to do with her arrogance, her belief she's irresistible and super smart (which of course, she's not). But she's also always in her dreamworld, in which she's a tv star starring in a kind of suspense drama. She's lost touch with reality completely. Like a main character in a lame tv show, she's convinced she's indestructible.
Still, while she irritated me most of the time, I thought she was an interesting villain. (hide spoiler)]

Tess: (view spoiler)[ I love this character and I'm more and more curious to learn what she is. Her little stunt at Darell's made me think of a gorgon, or medusa. You know, that mythology creature with serpent hair that can change you to stone just by looking at you in the eyes.
That would explain the hair having a life of their own and the dead muscles of the people who she looked at. What do you think? (hide spoiler)]

chapter 15

(view spoiler)[ So Meg is responsible for Monty finding the pedophile and killing him. I'm so glad she was able to lie about the prophecy, but I wonder how exactly. If she speaks the prophecy she feels euphoria, and if she doesn't she feels pain. Lying would mean pain, right? Wouldn't the controller notice that? So how was she able to fake euphoria while experiencing excruciating pain?

About Simon and Meg. It's funny to watch him getting more and more attached to Meg. And he isn't as angry about it than before. The scene when they played for the food was funny. He's beginning to show his softer side to her.
He needs to let go of his aggressivity around her. His reaction when he thought she had cut herself was excessive. (hide spoiler)]
