35559 Just finished this book and am emotionally spent... wow... so here I go for the final questions...

18. Kwame sacrifices his life for the Diviners. Do you think it was necessary? Was there another way that the two sides could have chosen to do?

~I'm not sure it was necessary in that fashion, it just seemed to cause a distraction and set fire. I'm not sure the two sides could have agreed in that short of time. He was forced to act and do something.

19. Zelie gives up hope a few times of getting magic back into their world. Do you think she's a worthy leader of the Maji's? If not, who do you think is worthy of being in charge to the Maji? Why do you think Zelie was chosen?

I think Zelie would make an excellent leader of the Maji. While at the festival it occurred to her how dangerous the magic could be and how rather than it being glorified and accepted , it most likely would be seen as something evil. And most of those seeking revenge would just continue to kill therefore causing a never ending cycle.

20. Zelie's torture by the King and his men seemed to have affect Zelie profoundly. Do you think it made her stronger or weaker after she was rescued? Do you think it influenced how she was and what she did at the island?

I hated this part of the book... the violence and hated seemed completely too much. VERY DISTURBING TO ME.

21. Do you think Zelie would have told the King that it was Inan that killed Kaea, if she knew didn't trust him completely and listened to Tzain's warnings of Inan? How do you think it would have changed the ending of the book?

I don't know... on one hand Zelie was falling in love, she believed him. Nothing your brother can say will change that. Yet, if she did believe it, she probably would have told his father... she wasn't above being a snitch against the "enemy". I'm not sure this would have changed the book however, except that maybe Inan's father would not have learned of Inan's magical abilities.

22. What do you think of the ending and the King's interactions with his children? What should have happened and would you change anything about it?

Ridiculous, I can't believe he would have behaved like that , after already losing a family. Another part I disliked.

23. What was your favourite and least favourite thing about the book? why?

My favorite part of the book was the relationship between Zelie and Amari. They reminded me of 2 lost sisters, who found each other. I think their relationship was more intense than either of the others that were developing.
Least favorite part was the torture and violence. Such hatred for a Young Adult book... simply TOO much.

24. Will you read the next book and the whole series? Why or why not? This book is going to turn into a movie. Do you see yourself going to watch it when it's out ?
http://deadline.com/2017/03/children-...
I would like to read the next book in the series, I might wait for reviews first. I will most likely see the movie, yet the book is always better.

25. If you could choose, which Maji clan would you be in or which clan do you think you would be in?

I would probably choose a healer or seer. A bit more of helpful types of powers. Yet , the quiz made me a reaper.... hhhmmmm

35559 Sorry all, was sucked into Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha, #1) by Tomi Adeyemi Children of Blood and Bone

That was one intense book... so many issues!
I'll look to see where it might fit. This will be a tough challenge for sure. Crazy, but I like it!

I'll be on and off again, as I finished that book... if my head doesn't explode first !

35559 Good job Minnie!

Stacey- I feel the same way! I usually Get through a book a day or two, these longer books are really slowing me down. I guess it forces me to really pay attention to the story which is a good thing.

I should finish Children of Blood and Bone today. It’s a pretty good story, the character names kind of throw me off when listening. They aren’t your typical Joe and Jane, so it takes me a sec to remember who is who.

35559 I like all of your reading spots.. I basically agree, anywhere my hubs or boys can’t find me is good. Over the summer I’ll find some shade by the book and dog into a book :) or I like to do yard work with my audiobook. Getting hot here too soon though ... up to 99° this week!

I'm a bit behind and am halfway through , BUT I'd like to participate :D

Day 1 - Chapters 1 - 12

1. What made you pick up this book? Do you have any expectations / hopes of it? (beyond being a good, entertaining read, obvs!)

I considered this book because of the cover and all of the excitement surrounding it's release. What cinched the deal was it being a BOTM!

2. We open up with some action, and it doesn't let up at all - do you like this break-neck pace, or is it sacrificing characterisation?

I love the action and the pace! I like a book to start out fast right out of the gate. The only issue I have is that I have to keep my audiobook speed at normal to get used to the rich accent and to learn the names. With the quick pace, it is a bit difficult to get to know each character.

3. There's 3 POVs - do you have a preference at the moment?

I prefer the MC Zélie , the story seems to revolve around her as a pivot point. So of course I jumped on the bandwagon with loving the obvious.

4. What do you think of the setting & magic system, that we've seen so far?

I find it unique ! Different from many other books. Pretty often you find a character who didn't know they possessed powers. In this take the powers themselves dried up and were brought about by the characters themselves. Of course not all of the characters expected to be able to yield the magic, which also was a neat twist.

5. We end this section on a reveal - how do you see this playing out?

Ummm... not sure exactly what the reveal is, as I've been listening to an audiobook. This story feels like it could be one long chapter. I don't want to spoil anything for those just starting ... but so far nothing was a huge surprise for me. Fairly predictable. But good predictable...
35559 Hey all! I'd like to join in ... it's a long one for sure!

35559 I started Children of Blood and Bone and am finding I really have to focus. Can’t get past 1.5 with the speed as the accent is so rich. And the names , yikes! Anyone read this one yet?
Usually I can listen and check in here but this book is tough. Good! But the beginning need my attention ;D

35559 I am planning on reading some of my super long books too! Next Audiobook will be the BOTM Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha, #1) by Tomi Adeyemi ~ I'll participate in discussion but think I'm too late to write any questions.

I'm good with y'all putting them in. Looks like we will be trying to fill in the high point words first. Thanks!

35559 Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "For the spell it out - why are we starting with the easy spells? Shouldn't we spell out the ones with the most points first?"

For the spell out tasks~ I don't mind starting either way. Not sure if it matters if we have until July 31st to complete them all. I think for sure we should try to fill in the difficult letters and get the most points. The easier letters will mostly likely just fall into place.

I'm a bit overwhelmed at this point and am just trying to read.
Between all of these challenges at once, my head is spinning! Too many choices at once!!!
