15 January Chapters 15-23

12. What do you think of Mac's character at this point? She is keeping secrets from everyone! How did you feel about her kissing Owen?
I don't mind her keeping secrets because lying is an essential part of being a Keeper, that she'll be able to keep the Archive secret. But I really don't like the way she dismisses the names that appear on her list and also that she trusts Owen more than Wes. On the matter of Mac kissing Owen, I don't like it. He's a History, so they can't be together. I understand that she likes that she's able to touch someone without noise, but just no.

13.Any theories on why Owen doesn't slip? And why he isn't on a piece of paper? How he was able to know how to subdue the Keeper Killer?
I don't really have any clue, and it's frustrating but at the same time exciting. Maybe he was forgotten? Maybe he was a Keeper before and that gives him an edge against slipping? There's so much theories running in my head.

14. Do you think it is realistic that Mac will be able to find notes hidden in the Coronado for Owen from over 50 years ago? Will they help with the puzzle of what is going on with The Archive?
Not in good condition, no. I think it's not really possible that the papers are still in one piece and the ink still neat and clear after all those years, but I'm not an expert on that. I don't really think it's connected to the Archive, but it's just a means to get close with Owen.

15. Lucian Nix seems to be a good source of information. If someone wanted all these deaths wiped, why is he still around?
Maybe because he's a blind old man and is helpless so whoever killed the three thought he would be harmless?

16. I was really shocked that Carmen would open Ben's drawer if it is true that touch wakes them up. It has made me suspicious of her. What do you think? Did she do it on purpose?
I never thought suspected much of Carmen, but now that I think about it, it does seem suspicious because Mac's mistakes all seem to stem from Carmen. The Jackson incident and the Ben incident. And then with the rogue Librarian on the loose...(Paranoia setting in)

Discussion Questions 13 January 2017: Chapters 7-14

6. Do you think that Owen Chris Clarke or Wesley Ayers have something to do with those armed Histories? It looks like the Histories are after MacKenzie’s key for someone else. Or could it be a Librarian, because Hooper’s name appeared on MacKenzie’s paper after she was already fighting him? What do you think?
I don't think it was Owen or Wesley. At first I did suspect them (This book's making me paranoid), but now I don't really think so anymore. I think it could be a librarian. Maybe Patrick since he seems to want Mackenzie to lose her job. Or could be Roland just because he's the least expected out of all of the Librarians.

7. Do you think it’s smart of MacKenzie to keep the knife, after all the warnings her Da gave her?
It couldn't hurt to have a knife as a last resort, but only as last resort because her Da didn't survive that long without gaining knowledge so his advices must have truth in it. And besides, it could have clues in it, and if she tried to dispose it, someone else might pick it up.

8. In the Library things are not as well as they seem. Do you think the missing death memory of a History is connected to the knife carrying Histories and the missing pages from The Coronado’s guest books? It seems the Coronado is connected somehow what do you think?
I don't know. It could be because everything's happening at the same time and I think that's too coincidental so they must be connected somehow. I just don't know how.

9. Do you think Ms. Angelli is connected to the Archive somehow? Her unwillingness to tell MacKenzie anything about the Coronado’s history seems strange to me.
Could be, but I don't think she's connected directly. Maybe a relative or someone close was a part of the Archive, and she either knew or had a feeling about it. She might know how much impact it would have if she told Mackenzie.

10. We are almost halfway through the book. Do you like the story? How do you like the characters?
I love the story so far. I have so much questions going on in my head right now because there's a lot of mysteries. And I love mystery. For the characters, I liked all of the characters presented, especially Mac, Wes and Roland and Owen. So I hope they're really what they seem to be.

11. Have you read any of the other books/series by Victoria Schwab? Do you like the writing style of this book? If you’ve read other books by this author is this book different from those and if so how?
Nope, but I do hope to read her other books because I've only heard good things about her. I like the writing style, but I wonder if all her books are this dark because the first book I've ever seen from Shwab is Vicious, and it sounds pretty dark to me.

The Archived DQs Part I

1) What do you think about the disappearing name on Mackenzie's slip of paper?
I first thought that maybe the Histories somehow escaped the Narrows or somehow got killed because then that would put him away from any Keeper's radar. Then I thought maybe they were already sent to the Returns because she can't be the only Keeper in the area.

2) What do you think happened in Mackenzie's apartment all those years ago? How will it tie up with the story?
Since he's bloody, it could be extreme abuse or murder. Not sure if he did it or if he was the victim. I'm not sure, but this really piqued my interest.

3) What do you think about Mackenzie's mom running away and trying to get rid of Ben's memory?
It's fine because that's probably how she copes with Ben's death, but she could have considered her family because that's what families are here for, to help you and to share your pains. She's not the only one who is sad about Ben.

4) How do you think that teenage History got a hold of the knife?
Someone gave it to him probably. Because I think there's no way that a knife could have slipped past. I can't think of other ways on how he got in. Though if someone is actually supplying them with weapons, I wonder what their purpose is.

5) What do you think of the story so far? How do you like it?
I'm enjoying it. There's a lot of things going on and the mysteries seem to be piling up so it's exciting to read what happens next. Though I do kind of find it a little depressing because of Ben, the bloody history of the room, and the sadness dripping out of Mackenzie. Her life can be so sad, having to lie often to her family. And Roland too since he's stuck in the Archives even though he longs to be in the Outer world.
