35559 I have a little bit left of Outcast to finish in the morning.
My eyelids are closing. 🄱

I am having a small freak-out about which of my Round 2 book I should start first, and whether I try to do more tagged books instead of just 2-3, in case y’all have trouble finding stuff, but I will literally go sleep on it... 😓

I'll be done with mine in about 20 minutes :D

When you look at everybody's Books p/round av, it makes total sense how many books we still have unfinished though. We are like, "There's more than 24 hours left? No problem!" :D

35559 I have a .... surprising number of TBRs that have those new tags. So weird.

35559 I am still on track to finish my remaining two books, but just in case I don’t have enough time (things a little nuts IRL right now), I will try to focus on my T book first, since it’s got the final tag bonus.

The other book is an O that can just be moved to next week’s word if I don’t manage to finish it. I should know for sure either way by early Friday morning. :)

35559 There are so many books with gorgeous covers coming out this year.
I mean, I guess that's probably true every year, but for some reason I've been drooling all over my screen lately.

This week is ALA Virtual, and lots of publishers are giving out ARCs or holding sweepstakes for ARCS, and I have been allllll over it.

Which means... I may not do so well on old TBRs for a little bit, lol.

MPG has to be on the main front page of the book, before you click through to "top shelves" :)

ETA: cross-posted with Laura :)

I think Laura is asking because MPG is different from just anywhere in tags[top shelves] with no minimum number...

35559 Hullo! Re Things in Jars (and my other non-tagged book) —
I will finish in time, though probably not until pretty close to the end of Round 1.

Any word yet in Caps group on when we will be getting our 2nd word?

35559 Re recs, well, there are a lot of things that I wanted to read anyway, and my GR TBR is like a giant dump of every book that has ever sounded interesting. So out of control, lol. So this rec task situation will just make me bump those books up the list!

For Quidditch, I had also finally broken down and signed up for 2 months free of Kindle Unlimited because I thought it would come in handy depending on books being read during the match. So even though I have a bazillion other book sources and generally try to avoid reading bad books on purpose, I am trying to make the most of my 2 month membership by taking the opportunity to read stuff that was on my TBR anyway that happens to be on KU. I guess that’ll be only 2 books during Round 1, but more are planned for the next Rounds, depending on what words we get.

So many books, such a short human lifespan... šŸ˜„

I noticed that! But I made a long list of stuff I would like to read that’s been recommended by other teams, so I am going to save those slots.
I considered using that book for ā€œspace ship on coverā€ too but there is at least one other book I would like to read this summer that has a spaceship on the cover, whereas I am less likely to read something else with a brown cover.
These tasks, man. Difficult to know what ya might regret not saving. :)

35559 I'm reading an indie Book 2 that's a little bit meh, but also started that re-read of Harry Potter #4 today. So yay to that.

Also, for some reason, a whole bunch of NetGalley approvals turned up in my inbox today. I haven't been requesting much stuff in the last few months, due to a combination of big backlog, reading less, and forgetting to check their website for new titles, but wow today was like Book Xmas, with whatever I did request, all coming in at once!
I got approved for The Conductors, which is exciting.

35559 No, we had Machiatto and Eucalyptus. I think there was one other team that did 2 respins besides mine, but I don't know what their weird words were.

35559 Definitely more laid back with 2 weeks per round!
I think it was weekly during the last wheel ("Brown" edition), and every 2 weeks the time before that ("Holiday" edition), which was only 6 weeks long.

The "Brown" edition was fun when we could ask for re-spins, and my team got some very bizarre words and themes. :D

35559 Just a bit over 50%, which means that I am on track! Though I do like to be ahead, so to me this is like being behind, haha.
I can feel good about all those books that I deleted though. This fall I will try to take the time to do more of that as well. Maybe stuff I added in 2015-16.

Cool. Hopefully the Mods will let everybody know the next round's Spell-Out words a little in advance of the actual deadlines though. (They usually do). It's always nice when it's, like, Wed night and you can start planning ahead for Fri night. :D

Luckily, it's The Sun Down Motel, which I've been interested in reading anyway, and it's on at least 2 other teams' rec lists!

35559 I just gave Navi a bunch of nonfiction recs, so I guess I will post them here too in case anyone else is interested! :D

Coming over from Don Quixote again -- this time to answer Navi's call for nonfiction recs!

Here are a few that I have given 5 stars...
Not My Father's Son by Alan Cumming Foreign Devils on the Silk Road The Search for the Lost Treasures of Central Asia by Peter Hopkirk Exile in Guyville How a Punk Rock Redneck Faggot Texan Moved to West Hollywood and Refused to Be Shiny and Happy by Dave White Plucked A History of Hair Removal by Rebecca M. Herzig The Billionaire's Vinegar The Mystery of the World's Most Expensive Bottle of Wine by Benjamin Wallace Two Lives by Vikram Seth The Power Broker Robert Moses and the Fall of New York by Robert A. Caro Krakatoa The Day the World Exploded August 27, 1883 by Simon Winchester Sweet Tooth A Memoir by Tim Anderson ...
And pretty much anything by Rick Bragg or Mary Roach.

I had already rec'd Just Mercy in my earlier rec post here.
I just watched the movie too -- good, but the book is way better ;D
