35559 Sorry if this was asked and answered. When it comes to round 2, can we use items we found in books read in round 1? For example, we find vinegar 3 times in a round 1 book, but we only use two of those in round 1. Can we use the 3rd instance of Vinegar in round 2?

I think the harder to find ones we might want to list multiple times but based on the books we have done already I don't think we will be hurting for ingredients

I'm going to sort by Available and then Remaining and start using those ingredients with books over 300 pages.

The over 500 page books I'm going to concentrate on the drinks and desserts we find and use ingredients if we can't fill the other items. My 500 Page book should have about 10 drinks/desserts, outside of coffee and tea.

I get it now. I have added it with 6 ingredients. When I googled it said potato so I added that. We can add more if we want to that or make another special. The book i'm reading now for sure has chicken and rice and we already have lots of spices we can use specifically instead of generic "spices"

Yes, I played it the last time they did this challenge."

Oh Great. You can let us know if we are doing things wrong. :) Most of us have never played before so we are kinda winging it right now.

You've played this before?

35559 OK.

I looked at what we had and we had enough for Fish and Chips, so I filled out that meal and shop front in the planning spreadsheet.

I think I did that right, so take a look when you get some time. I'll highlight the items used in red to indicate they have been used.
Sep 02, 2022 12:18PM

35559 Ok. I updated the books I have so far and removed the desserts and anything not coffee or tea from them.

I do have an almost 600 page book coming up and I know its got a few desserts and drinks in it. I'll concentrate on those when I get to that. I also think is has Fish and Chips in it, but not sure.
Sep 02, 2022 11:18AM

35559 Not sure either on the spices, but spices is used in their example of curry, so I think we can use generic "spices" when making curry?

Yeah. I just checked and its 3 ingredients towards something.

This book is super short, but has a ton of food items.

I don't think I've ever paid attention to the amount of food and drinks in books before.

35559 I think we could also track the descriptions. Or is anyone good at that? I would have a hard time coming up with a description that was anything other than a list of ingredients.

For example Thick Roast Beef Sandwich with Carmelized Onions and gooey cheese.

I would have said roast beef sandwich with onion and cheese...

35559 Let's say I'm reading a book and the character eats a sandwich. It's described as a "Thick Roast Beef Sandwich with caramelized onions and gooey cheese".

Can that be used for a sandwich or is it only 3 ingredients used for a sandwich?

(I think I almost understand the meals)....

35559 I'm going through and finding the meals in the book I'm reading. he describes them nicely.

chicken tortilla soup topped with diced avocado, shredded monterey jack cheese, a sprinkling of cilantro and spicy tortilla strips

In the spreadsheet I added pg 41 - soup and then used this as the description. I think because they describe it that way we can use the whole meal with just the one word. Good thing cause this book only allows for 4 and he cooks a lot.

CRAP. Soup is not an item we can use. I know it also has at least one sandwich and one pasta dish.

I know the feeling. I read a book with a guy who lived in the woods for years and hasn't had "regular" food so they go and try lots of things like burgers and ice cream and all that stuff.

When I do hunt challenges I usually search for the words first and then enjoy the reading of the book. Given we will for surely max out on the books each month I don't think we need to worry about missing a general word. The items that would be hard, like vinegar, would be nice to note.

I think we could add the page # next to the item on the Round 1 Books tab.

We don't all need to move items to the official spreadsheet, I figured I would do that. Having the planning spreadsheet allows us to move items around to make the "best" menu for our restaurant.

I'm kinda making this up as I go since I have never played this before.

I know. I have a book I'm going to re-read for hunt and I know it has lots of food in it. I'm waiting to start anything new for 3 more hours.

I fixed it so it's 160 pages. makes more sense with the split.
Sep 01, 2022 09:23AM

35559 1. Yes. I thought we could use that to organize and get the best meals out of what we have before we add it to the Official worksheet.

2. I added an overflow tab to the planning sheet for books under 175 pages. I figured we would max out on the books for Sept for sure and probably the other months where we get more for max books. I didn't read as much in August as I usually do, only 22, but I usually do more than that.

35559 16 Hours until the challenge starts. I'm so excited. Who wants to write our "blurb" about our restaurant ?

RESTAURANT NAME
At the start of the challenge, name your restaurant and give a (max. 5 sentence) blurb “about” the restaurant. This may just give you an advantage for round 2….

We will also need someone to write descriptions of meals as we create them....who is good at creative writing?
