This is an atmospheric, almost Gothic feeling London. Not a cozy mystery by any stretch.
Lydia Crow needs to leave Scotland fast, so goes back to her hometown Camberwell, London. She describes herself as a dud magic user, 27 yrs old & unable to keep a job, newish private investigator, and a Crow.
This London is ruled by 4 magic Families ~ Crows, Silvers, Foxes and Pearls. There is a truce that appears to be teetering.
I enjoyed the world-building, the mystery, even DCI Fleet & Jason the ghost, but Lydia just seemed a tad drab. I'm sure she'll improve as the series progresses.
