3113 Hey all... I'm off to Washington DC for three days. My daughter has a work of art being hung in a gallery there so we are going for the opening. Gonna stroll around and gawk at all the criminals who just sold us down the river. Be good. Don't take any wooden nickels. Catch you on the flip side.

3113 Best: My sixth grade teacher Richard Cox. He was young, idealistic, passionate, funny, smart, and loving. He had a room full of smart alecy young boys, and he handled them admirably. I loved him so much he was like an uncle to me. We played Dictionary Digup, and he gave us a writing assignment which was to write a guided meditation. His class was fun, smart, cool, energetic and made me want to go to school every single day.

Worst: My fourth grade teacher Mister Stork. He used to make us write on the blackboard hundreds of times the definition of gum, if we were caught chewing it. I was really shy and used to whisper to him to ask to go to the bathroom, and then he would shout "Yes Charissa you may go to the bathroom!!" so the whole class could hear and then they would laugh at me. He rode his bicycle to school and ate raw soybeans out of babyfood jars. He was a weirdo and had a mean streak. By that point in school I was pretty traumatized by the older girls and he never did anything to protect me from them. That was an awful year in school. I think my parents got divorced right before that. In retrospect I think he liked me, but his way of showing it was sadistic.

Runner Up: History of Philosophy teacher in Junior College, I can't even remember his name. It was Cobb something I think. Weird name, weird man, terrible teacher. He never told us anything directly. Was always speaking this cryptic language and wanting us to guess what the fuck he was on about. We had a substitute teacher one week that semester and learned more in that one week than we had learned the whole rest of the time. The philosophy students hated him. I just thought he was useless.

3113 I will always be an original Star Trek Trekkie. Next Generation and everything after is just a pale shade, to me. Although I have to say, The Borg was a pretty cool story arc.

Long Live Shatner, Nimoy, Doohan, Kelley, Nichols, Takei and Koenig!!!

3113 The way I see it, we're all ultimately expendable. I'm no exception.

3113 Nick... thanks dude. No worries. I would like to forget I am sick too. Can we switch brains for a while? Sounds like you are getting about as much sleep as me. Watch out there, pard. Don't wanna awaken the lung beast again in yourself. The Plague sucks. Take care of yourself, hon.

NB... yeah... I'm trying not to think about it too much. Their house is empty and I feel like an orphan. Gee, wonder why I got sick.

Rusty... Cyril... I hear you. I suppose a lot of these discussions we have about politics are like spitting into the wind.

Nick... I thought Biden got a little choked up when he talked about that. I hope it wasn't politics too. I kind of really liked him at the moment.

3113 Nick... my word count since I last gave you one is only 1000 words (appx). Pneumonia is fairly counterproductive to writing I discovered. But I did manage to write a piece about death. Very cheery, no? Yeah, it's been a bitch of a week. Today I got up at 3am and took my BFF and her family to the airport on their way to move to Denver. I'm hoping tomorrow will be kinder to me.

3113 I can only argue from that standpoint of what determines the way I vote. I don't make policy. All I can do is speak about how I see the world, try to understand how others see the world, educate myself as best I can, stand up for what I believe, and vote according to my conscience.

I get your point, Nick, about making concessions, but they are fighting for their rights. If women had settled for having a special "women's vote" which was not voting but something like it, they never would have achieved the status of equal voting rights. Gay and lesbian rights are not an intellectual exercise, they are personal. Reproductive rights are not a concept, they are personal. My politics are not in the abstract, they are personal. They are not about imposing my views on others, they are about preventing other people from imposing their religious views on me and the people I love.

I leave it to other people to make concessions. I'm not interested in them.

3113 What bothers me about it, Nick, is that it's outright discrimination. Replace the word "gay" with the word "Jew" or "black" or "Irish"... now read the sentence to yourself:

Black people shouldn't be allowed to get married. Marriage should only be allowed between two white people. They can have civil unions, but we don't want them polluting our sacred institution of marriage. It's bad for the children.

Uh huh. Fuck that.

Anything short of Equal Rights for All Adults, regardless of age, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, etc... is simply discrimination. If we don't stand up for what is right, how will we ever get there? It's not okay with me for my gay and lesbian friends to be discriminated against. Period.

3113 I didn't say Palin was stupid for mispronouncing nuclear, I said she was ignorant. I also have said I think Bush W. is ignorant for pronouncing it "nukular". Intelligence has nothing to do with it. It's a mispronunciation. If people on the street mispronounce things, it's one thing. They aren't representing our country on a national level. But I sure as hell don't want the potential Chief Representative of my country sounding ignorant if I can help it. It doesn't take much to get some speech lessons and be able to correctly pronounce your own language. If Obama was saying "axe" instead of "ask" you better believe people in this country would be all up in his grill about it. And I would find it personally embarassing as well. But he doesn't, because he actually bothered to learn to speak correctly. It's not an accent... it's a MISPRONUNCIATION. And it shows a disregard for information. It shows a disregard for education. And the character of both George W. and Sarah Palin bear that out in the rest of their actions and manners.

In every single thread where people have criticized Barak Obama, including you NB, I held my tongue on every issue except on those that I felt qualified to debate. I never complained that Obama was being criticized, regardless of how much I disagreed with what was being said.

If you can't take it when a group of people RIGHTLY criticize your candidate of choice, you can LEAVE MY SANDBOX. If you can't take being in a room where your opinion is outnumbered, go back to the Conservative echo chambers where you hang out the rest of the time.

3113 1) Exactly Bunny, "nuke-you-lar" drives me nuts. The ignorance of it is just frightening.

2) She didn't fall flat on her face, she stayed above her skates with some fancy footwork.

3) The fancy footwork mostly involved not answering questions put to her, instead changing the subject and interjecting her own, pre-rehearsed talking points and sound bites. Biden answered all the questions put to him directly.

4) She repeatedly referred to her family as "diverse". Since when is diversity a group of straight, white Christians? Do they have anyone of color in her family? Anyone who is gay, bisexual, transgendered or lesbian? Anyone who is Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Pagan, Taoist or Atheist? She defined diverse as "sometimes they disagree with each other". If that's her definition of diversity, I'd say she is frighteningly out of touch. But I knew that already.

Some of the content of her speeches gave me the idea that the reason McCain chose her was her connection to the oil and gas industry. Go figure.

3113 My BFF goes into changing rooms with me when we go shopping together. Sometimes I need fashion intervention. I can always trust her judgement.

The last person I would want watching me try stuff on would be a spouse. But my sisters and I always give each other changing room advice. Maybe it's a girl thing.
3113 That's what happens when you are competent vs being a moron. You get stuck with all the work!! Don't you friggin hate that??

Sounds scary, Nick-o-laus. Follow your instincts. You know what you can and can't do.

XOXO
