3113 I definitely consider myself an artistic person, and claim incompetence in most other areas that aren't strictly academic... but truth be known I have an uncanny touch with both machines and animals. Horses calm down under my touch, dogs stop fidgeting, cats somehow know I am friendly to them. Sewing machines start functioning again, computers stop misbehaving, cars that won't start rev suddenly when I turn the ignition.

Of course, it's not fulproof, and I try not to talk about it, because the gods are fickle that way. But among the Luddites of my family, I am considered to be one of the techno geniuses of the 21st Century. That always makes me laugh. Especially since I barely know enough to get what I need to done on the damn things.

But it's all relative, isn't it?

3113 One of the most important archaeological finds in history was the Dead Sea Scrolls. These documents include some of the earliest written records of the Bible. Now archaeologists say they've found what they claim is the most significant archaeological discovery in Israel since those documents. They found a shard of pottery that's about 3,000 years old—a thousand years older than the Dead Sea Scrolls. This would have been about the time of the legendary King David.

Pottery inscribed with ink is called an ostracon. This ostracon was found in the oldest Judean city unearthed to date. Archaeologists say the city is near where David killed Goliath. It's south of current-day Beit Shemesh. The site has been excavated only since June of this year. Archaeologists say what they uncover at this site will help us learn more about life at the time of David.

The ostracon has five lines of text in black ink. It's written in Hebrew, making it the earliest Hebrew text ever found. Researchers have deciphered some of the words, including slave, judge and king. So it could be part of a legal code that might provide insight into early Hebrew civilization.

3113 Maybe the compaction served as a kind of shock therapy. Maybe he'll be less crazy now.

3113 NB... will I automatically turn into a xtian if I read too much of the Bible late at night before I go to bed?

I dunno, sounds like you might have a new career ahead of you. Will it include chicken farming?

3113 Here's my word count so far:

8678 / 50000 words. 17% done!

That's 1104 words so far today. I'm thinking this whole sitting in a cafe thing really works for me. That's what I get for being a fucking Bohemian. Just hand me a bloody beret and have done with it.

Thanks everyone for your witness and support. I couldn't be doing this without you!!!

3113 actually Rusty... there are a shitload of Repubs in this state. Southern California (Orange County) and the Central Valley especially. Not to mention the Latino Catholic vote.

This state is surprisingly redneck once you get outside the SF Bay Area.

3113 chutzpa, my friend.

and yes, she had plenty of that.

I saw her speak in person once, along with Gorbachev and Bush Sr, at a World Symposium in SF at the Masons Hall. It was pretty cool. Damn, you could bounce a quarter off her hair.

I can't say I agreed with everything she said, but I had to give her props. She went toe to toe with Gorby. I used to love to see her in the House of Commons. Ha!
