11. Who is your favorite author?Sharon Shinn, definitely.

I just won a book, my first one, in competition. I'm waiting for it to arrive.

The best book I've read this year? I'm torn between
The Name of the Wind and the book I'm reading and loving right now -
Graceling.

I'm reading
by Carola Dunn. A delightful book, like all her Daisy Dalrymple mysteries.
Blood Price or any other of the Blood series by
Tanya Huff. She has an interesting vampire there, one of the first in urban fantasy.

Anything from
Bujold, Loïs McMaster's Vorkosigan series. My favorite is
Komarr, but any other will do. Her
The Warrior's Apprentice is hilarious.

I also had trouble reading
A Discovery of Witches. Never finished it, despite all the good reviews.

I'd second
A Tale of Two Cities. It's been on my list 'to read' for some time.
♫Sam♫ wrote: "One of the charters really pisses me off, he abused his wife and abuses his girlfriend. I'm looking for a way to get into the book to punch him in the fac..."Oh, yeah! Many of my stories start the same way: I want to get into the book and 'fix' things. I want the protagonist's abusive personality to be a mask of vulnerability or a secondary character to acquire a magical lipstick. I often think: what if it didn't go the way the author pointed but in the opposite direction.

I'm reading
The Night Circus. So far, I'm not impressed. I'm on page 69, and the story hasn't started yet. There is no emotional involvement, neither by the author nor by the reader. I can only guess who is going to be the protagonist(s), because the POV jumps erratically. It seems that the story should be beautiful and tantalizing... when it starts. I'm not sure I'll read so long. But to give it its due, the language is amazing and the cover lovely. It's clearly a literary novel, which for some reason uses fantasy as a prop. Perhaps I'm missing a point? I know many people like it. I'll try to muddle through.
For now, to give myself a respite from literary, I started to re-read (for the umpteenth time) one of Jayne Ann Krentz's novels,
Family Man. I love her books, especially the ones written between 1990 and 2007. They are invariable good, easy read. I know what it's about and how it will end, and I still enjoy it.

Hi, all. I'm Olga. I live in Vancouver, Canada. I read voraciously and I write too.
