223452 If I'm not at work at Micky D's, I'm usually writing ... so I never get a day off.

But I only work McDonald's three days a week, so I frequently get four-day weekends.

223452 Our church does a thing the Sunday closest to the Fourth, which will be tomorrow. So tomorrow. Generally a ton of fun.

223452 Hey, Casual! No worries - this is the random chat, it's pretty hard to hijack. Almost anything is "on topic."

My reading time varies from week to week, so it's hard for me to put an exact number on it. I'm a fast reader, though, so that's an influence.

223452 *Finally gets through what everyone posted while I was at work. Whew.*

To be honest, unless you publish with a big company that has a huge budget, you are likely going to still need to do the marketing yourself. And even if you get a big company, you're still likely to be asked to do a lion's share. I've had multiple trad-published authors tell me this, and one of them even said that it's harder for her to market her one traditionally published book, as she doesn't have control over its price as she does with her indie books.

I will say, though, that having an editor and cover designer are huge plusses.

Are we of the indie community in need of good, affordable editors? Yes, we truly are. I'd love to hire a professional editor for my books, but I can't stinkin' afford it. Fortunately, I have a couple of friends who are editors/aspiring editors, and most of them will sign on as beta readers and give me edits just for the privilege of getting to read the book in advance. I don't like to take advantage of them, though, and as one recently opened her editing business, I'm hoping that I shall be able to afford to actually pay for her services. (Another one of them, we have an exchange deal, and I edit her books right back for her.)

This is one reason that I'm working on pulling together a company with a focus towards promotion for indie authors. I'll also be offering some lighter editing services, as I believe that half of promotion is having a product worth promoting.

Oh, and on the print books thing - all I've ever paid for my print books is buying proof copies and copies to have on hand. I use a print on demand company, so it's very cost effective.

223452 :)

That particular pencil also happens to be the same pencil that I have on the cover of The Ankulen.

The Ankulen by Kendra E. Ardnek

The picture was initially taken with plans of going into that cover, but then I ended up not using it, and then later using it for my website.

Funnily enough, it's not my favorite pencil, as it's a 0.5 mm lead, and I prefer them to be 0.7 mm. I just love the way that it looks.

223452 For me, a lot of the issue is that I am a published author who has to do ALL of her marketing, and so ... there is the fact that I have a product that I'd like you to buy over my head. No, I don't want to make our relationship about my books, but at the same time...

223452 Muchly. But it's VERY difficult for me to initiate conversations, even online. It's getting easier, but ... I still prefer it if people come to me. (Which is why I hold a lot of events. Giving them reasons to come.)

223452 People are quite fascinating.

And the only one that I "manipulate" is I/E, and that's only because they're usually asking "action" questions, and I ... behave as an introvert a lot of the time. So I go with the answer that I wish that I had the confidence to do instead.

223452 I suppose that I ought to go ahead and fill this out.

- A classic - The Yellow Fairy Book
- A fantasy\sci-fi - Krakens and Lies (Finished)
- A contemporary -
- An indie published -
- A non-fiction -
- 1901 and 2000 - Brothers-in-Arms
- 1801 and 1900 -
- 1701 and 1800 -
- 1601 and 1700 -
- 1501 and 1600 -

The rest are to be determined.

223452 And, as an ENFP, my E/I is always VERY close to the line when I take a test, and I could probably get it closer, but I (um) will manipulate the test because I know what they're asking. The other letters that get even closer are F/T, as ENFP's also tend to be fairly in tune with their third function of Extroverted Thinking. I use Extroverted Thinking, though, and Introverted Feeling, so I know I'm an ENFP and not an ENTP.

I would lean towards ENFP in that case, as ENFP's tend to be ambiverts, while INFP's usually know that they're are solidly introverted.

223452 Mm, well, actually, ISFJ actually still has the same two center decision functions. They just lead with Introverted Sensing. Which is actually my last function. So. Yeah.

ISFJ's are cool. Some of my favorite aunts are that.

223452 I held an indie-themed e-Con last spring, and made a bit of a storefront for all of the featured books. If you guys would like to check them out: http://astore.amazon.com/indiecon-20

223452 I didn't say that you are extroverted, just that you have tendencies more typical of extroverts - it's your extroverted feeling second function. But acting extroverted takes a LOT of energy out of you.

I, on the other hand, am an ENFP, which is supposedly the most introverted of extroverts. I love people - I crave attention, but ... am also terribly shy. It's a problem.
