222868 Does anyone know if when there is a day count on a NetGalley book, if the book just disappears forever? I have a cookbook that I reviewed and it is only available on the NetGalley shelf app. It will not download to my kindle or my tablet. I did read somewhere that I can add so many days onto the count but it's only like 30 more days.

222868 Melindeeloo... I don't think that you would have to re-read the short stories to read the first full length book. I'm not sure that you can even get both of those anthologies anymore. I'm going to start on the first book, "Junk Magic". If it helps, I just re-downloaded both anthologies. Check your kindle library to see if you can retrieve them.

222868 Shannon... Thanks for the info about the Lia de Croissets novel. I read both of the short stories long ago in the anthologies, Wolfsbane and Mistletoe Wolfsbane and Mistletoe by Charlaine Harris and the Strange Brew Strange Brew by P.N. Elrod and I remember liking them. I just started reading the first one and will do a re-read of the second also.
I finished listening to Swamp Spirits Swamp Spirits (Miss Fortune Mystery, #23) by Jana Deleon I'm so glad that I discovered this series, and just love it on audio.

222868 If some of you don't use the app you probably don't know that unless you put the book title in and not just the cover then you can't see what people are talking about. For some reason the book covers aren't coming through anymore. I have got to say. Goodreads' app is getting worse not better.

222868 I just finished "The Heretic Royal". I would recommend that if you haven't read the Dragon Kin books, or haven't read very many of them you might want to get caught up.
Aiken has a chaotic writing style and this book hits hot and heavy. I won't give spoilers but the beginning of the book bounces around a lot and that makes it hard to get the gist of what's going on with so many characters if you knew nothing about them. This book is mainly about the action and much less about the romance. I would venture to say that it plays a tiny part in this book which is not her usual style. In the end, I really liked it and can't wait for the next one. I received an ARC through NetGalley.

222868 Does anyone else here have a hard time with the GoodReads app? I just entered 23 books that weren't in my "books read" listing and they aren't adding to my year challenge. Most of my reading is done on audio books, but those never add onto the Goodreads site unless I enter them manually, even the ones that I get on both kindle and audio which sync between the two.

222868 Frisco, I was also going to post that the 2nd Laurel Snow book is out today. "You Can Hide" doesn't suffer from the so called sophomore slump. It is action, intrigue, a subtle romance all rolled into one. This has become one of my favorite series. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from NetGalley.

222868 As one of those people who started on the Amazon forum, I stayed through all 10? renditions of the read. reading... boards, I was grateful that we jumped to Goodreads. like many here, I don't have a group of friends who read for fun. I have had the privilege of meeting some of you and I would never have had that opportunity if we didn't have such a great group here.

222868 Happy Birthday Doug, sorry I'm a bit late on that. I hope that it was a great day.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
We have so much to be grateful for and one of my blessings is coming here and catching up with all of my book buddies. Thanks for all of the excellent recommendations.

222868 I finished The Serpent in Heaven. I was afraid that it would be a YA book, filled with teenage angst, but it wasn't at all. Felicia turned out to be clever and resourceful.
I also read the first book in the Hailey Edward's Black Hat Bureau series, Black Hat, White Witch. I am always amazed by just how authors can put a new spin on the supernatural world. I know some here have been reading this series all along but I finally got around to it and I'm glad I did.
I don't know if any of you folks do any of the Kindle challenges but because of the latest one I started "Excuse Me While I Disappear " by Laurie Notaro. This will be appreciated by women of a certain age. (MAW's, Middle Age Women). This is written as a series of short stories, all loosely linked by her experiences as she is growing older.
It is so hysterical in parts that I had tears in my eyes. It's been a long time since I've done that.

222868 Thanks Demetra I just added the Orc series to my "want to read " list. They sounds good.
I'm currently listening to Charlaine Harris' latest on her Gunny series, " The Serpent in Heaven". This is about Liz, "Gunny" Rose's half sister, Felicia. For some unknown reason, on a supposed normal trip out to dinner with Liz's inlaws she is kidnapped by 2 thugs. She believes that it has been all a serious mistake and has to literally rescue herself.
So far, I really like it and I haven't found any lulls in the action. While young, she thinks out the possibilities before taking action.

222868 I haven't done anything with my challenge in a long time. i just don't have the time needed to do a good job. Oh well, better luck next year. I wish that my audible books would automatically register on my Goodreads list. I would have an easier time of it if they did.

222868 Shannon C if you like the latest in the Guild Codex series, there is a short story that follows the ending of "The Unbreakable Bladesong Druid" and it features all of the main characters from each of the previous storylines.
I loved it.
I have been reading the Black Hat White Witch books by Hailey Edwards.
I finished my listen of all of the currently out books in Jennifer Ashley's Below Stairs Mysteries. These are quite good and because the main character Catherine, (Cat), Holloway is a cook I tend to be hungry while I read them. I really like this historical series, and the mysteries are well thought out.
I am currently listening to a cozy mystery. The Oxford Tearoom Mysteries, book 11 "Wrongfully Infused". These are easy on the mind gentle mysteries. The mc Gemma owns a traditional British tearoom in a 15th century building. In this story she is being accused of killing her competition who is a nasty piece of work, and has enemies everywhere. These are quick reads and generally are only 6 or 7 hour books.
I think many if us are suckers for a fairy tale retelling.
