The Parthenon was built in the 5th century BC. Like most Greek temples, the Parthenon also served as the city treasury. A big project like the Parthenon attracted stonemasons from far and wide who travelled to Athens to assist in the project. Machu Picchu was an important cultural center for the Inca civilization but was abandoned when the Spanish invaded the region. It is only accessible by train or hiking and visitors are limited.
