May wrap-up (19 new)
May 31, 2019 07:42AM

208213 I just finished Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster this morning and I really enjoyed it (as much as you enjoy a book about such tragic events.) I wrote a proper review on it so you can go peek at that if you're interested!

I'm a lil disappointed that I don't have time to go back to Milkman before the month is over; I started it before Into Thin Air but was feeling too dumb for something so dense, even though I was liking it, and now I just wanna go read something for the June challenge instead lol.

208213 I started Milkman and I like it, but it's hella dense and I'm finding it hard to focus on it right now, so I switched over to Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster; only a quarter in so far but I'm into it (enjoying it feels like a weird word choice for a book about such a tragic subject lol)

I read that earlier this year, and yeah, that book was weird as hell. The end was fine, but the first section with her husband was SO BAD, I almost ditched it.

Also: I just finished The Test and it was predictable + bad. Not worth the hour~ it took to read. I'm probably gonna start Normal People or Milkman tonight.

208213 Just finished The Psychology of Time Travel and I loved it.

The last three books I've read have been favourites, so now I'm NERVOUS about the next one.

208213 Finished Convenience Store Woman (loved it), going to start on The Psychology of Time Travel this weekend.
Apr 30, 2019 05:52AM

208213 I've been stashing Convenience Store Woman (Japan) all year for this challenge lol.

I also didn't get around to The Psychology of Time Travel (England?) this month, so I'll be reading that one too! Not sure which one I'll go for first though.
April wrap-up (20 new)
Apr 23, 2019 06:17AM

208213 omg, E, thank you for the Read the World link. I'm 100% a judge a book by it's cover brat and a lot of those jump out at me so I'm gonna take a peek at the plots and grab some for later.

Also, Sappho's Bar & Grill sounds neat, might add it to my TBR too.

208213 Finished Neverworld Wake and it was trash lol. I gave it 2 stars + wrote a proper review if anyone cares.

I should probably go back to 1Q84 but I also kinda want to go for the theme again and start The Psychology of Time Travel instead.

208213 This challenge is fucking me up cause all of the quintessential time travel books are very much not what I'm into. I did a poke around the genre lists and sent samples of these to my kindle:
- Doomsday Book
- Slaughterhouse-Five
- Neverworld Wake

Leaning towards one of the last two because they're short and I'm still crawling my way through 1Q84.
MARCH '19 - IJAF (51 new)
Feb 24, 2019 05:32PM

208213 I have A LOT for this cause I never find myself going for the non-fiction on my TBR, but I'm gonna try to get through the following:
- We Should All Be Feminists
- Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race
- How to Murder Your Life
- In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs: I own this one irl already (I read almost everything on kindle) and all I've ever done is flip through it despite being really excited about it.

I have a few more, you know, in case that's not enough lol.
February wrap-up (33 new)
Feb 18, 2019 04:53PM

208213 February has been a rough reading month after a really good / productive January. The first book I read was The Pisces for the romance theme and lol I hated it. Probably didn't help with the whole "lack of motivation to read" thing. I picked it for the cover alone and the first half was okay but it's just too self-indulgent and ramble-y.

I read In the Tall Grass in an hour as a palette cleanser immediately after and it was good but too short.

Just finished My Sister, the Serial Killer today and I loved it. If I'd been making time to read more actively, I'd probably have zipped through it but yeah, really liked this one and now I feel more positive about reading for the remainder of the month.
208213 I'm gonna read The Pisces cause it sounds weird as heck and I like the cover lol.
January wrap up (29 new)

208213 I finished NOS4A2 on Saturday and I really liked it!! I gave it four stars (4.5, honestly) cause there was an element to the ending that was pretty unsatisfying after everything he put you / the characters through.

Not challenge-related (cause I had a hard enough time picking one for the theme) but I chose The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo over Fever Dream for my next read and wow, it's not doing it for me. I miss my twelve dollars.
208213 I'm 80~ ish percent through NOS4A2 and it's reeeeeeally good. I'm looking forward to the show now and I didn't even know about it until I chose the book.

I was considering picking a second book to fit challenge if I finished early but I found this month's theme so hard that I'm just gonna read something light from my tbr instead lol.
208213 Kim wrote: "Ugh I read The Visible Filth and it was utter trash. I do not recommend."

Damn, I was actually considering switching to this cause it's short + I'm feeling kind of lazy.
208213 hi, hello, long-time lurker coming out of the shadows. I got myself a Kindle over the holidays to make better use of my free time and figured the challenge might be fun (and give me a little bit of direction as someone coming back to reading regularly for the first time in years).

I'm considering Lovecraft Country, NOS4A2, or The Knife of Never Letting Go for no other reason than the plots sound weird + interesting. I downloaded samples of each so I'm going to give those a peek and make my decision tonight!
