2059 You may also like The Star of Africa, whch also has my interview with Stigler and the other men in North Africa.

2059 There is an old book about this subject you may like, 'Free as a Running Fox' by Tommy Calnan, and also Robert Stanford Tuck's 'Fly for Your Life'. On the German side, look up Franz von Werra.

2059 Thanks Jim, Weigley taught me a lot, and I dedicated one of my books to him.

2059 Russell Weigley was my graduate thesis supervisor and mentor at Temple University. He was an amazing intellect indeed, and I miss him very much.

Rick, if you want signed bookplates from us as the authors, let us know, or you can order a signed copy of Stormbird from our website.

2059 You can see some of his comments (along with other senior Waffen SS officers) in two of my books, German Anti-Partisan warfare and Occupation and Insurgency.

2059 I interviewed Jimmy (General) Stewart about his career, and I have to say he was the perfect gentleman.

2059 Good article, well aware of the Galicians.
2059 read Aaron Bank's book. He was a Jedburgh man, later created the Green Berets, and I was able to interview him.

2059 I would suggest that you all read Campaign in Russia, or any of the other books by Leon Degrelle. I interviewed Degrelle, the sahort form interview was publsihed a few years ago.

DRACH NACH OSTEN is actually "Drang nacj osten", or "Pust to the east" which was the battle cry of the Teutonic Knights of Prussia, pushing into the Baltic states and Poland under Frederick I Barbarossa in the 12th Century, adopted by Hitler for the invasion of the USSR on June 22, 1941.

2059 Most Do-17, 117, and 217 models were converted to night fighters after 1943. See my book 'Night Fighters' from Naval Institute Press, 2008.

Thanks for the recommendations, I have Schuck's book signed, and he is an old friend. See him at my website, he is still alive and living large. The P-51 pilot who shot him down in his Me-262 Joe Peterburs is also still alive, and doing well. They are great friends.

My old book German Anti-Partisan Warfare in Europe also has a section on SOE in Albania, with reports from the declassified archives at Kew.

Von Strachwitz was one of two panzer generals to receive the Diamonds. Hasso von Manteuffel was the other. Only 27 men received Germany's highest decoration.

Komet, on this book, you will see my commentary blurb on the back jacket. I knew Steinhoff very well, and in fact I am working on The German Aces Speak vol. 2 now, and he is one of the four pilots featured in this second volume. You can also read his comments along with about 20 others in my other book, The Me-262 Stormbird.

2059 Albania was really the forgotten front in the Balkans during WW I. King Zog and his collection of zealots were a real strange bunch. Ironically they did provide enough volunteers to create an Albanian Waffen SS regiment.

2059 I highly recommend A Higher Call, Adam did a great job synthesizing the data, and it was a pleasure to have worked on the manuscript with him. Franz Stigler and johannes Steinhoff were also important in my research, especialy in writing The Star of Africa, and Stigler's experience with Marseille, Neumann, Galland and Steinhoff (and others) really came through in the book.
