Check your first book to see if the company you used is mentioned on the copyright page.
My wife and I own a small press and until 2 years ago were regularly publishing, but we've had to scale back to just my books for the moment due to financial and health issues. I will say you should ask to see some samples from any company you're thinking of hiring, if you're not already familiar with their work, because quality seems to be all over the place. Some self-published books look very professional and some look like they were thrown together by a herd of squirrels. :-P Doing a good job is fairly labor-intensive even with the right software, so you'll probably pay a healthy price, although that's just a guess. I don't know what the market looks like right now.

Saving money is always a plus. Personally, I think Bowker's pricing borders on the ridiculous, but they have a monopoly on it in their region, so I guess that's to be expected. The thing to do is buy in bulk if possible, which makes the initial purchase kind of pricey but saves money over the long term.
Cate wrote: "Hi everyone! I've been looking into purchasing ISBN's and I'm a little stumped. I'm a US citizen residing in Germany, so my question is should I buy a German ISBN for my novel (written in English) ..."HI Cate. Generally, a publisher should purchase ISBNs from the national ISBN agency in the country where they are based. So I guess if you permanently live in Germany, you should use the German agency. However, if you are only temporarily in Germany, and would register/pay with a U.S. address, then it would probably be Bowker.
You're quite welcome, and thank you for the answers. In that case, I'll leave it as is, although maybe others can suggest improvements.
A suggestion, followed by questions:-----
Nobody believes them.
For Edward and Elizabeth, a summer on Bligh Island with their distant cousin Henrietta is like being sentenced to die of boredom. But adventure awaits! The island harbors family history and the hideout of a band of 18th century smugglers. It's all great fun . . . until modern-day smugglers show up!
The kids take the case to the police, but the local officer won't believe them. They're on their own, and their lives are in danger. How can they stop the smugglers?
-----
I gather the trio come to the island together? (That is, Henri doesn't live there, right?)
Who is the "friend" you mention. Someone who lives on the island? What role do they play in the adventure?
Does the family history tie in with the 18th century smugglers?
Do the modern-day smugglers use the same hideout as the bygone smugglers? Is there some connection between the two groups?
I might suggest some changes based on the answers, but maybe you don't need to get too deep into all of this in the blurb anyway.

Anna wrote: "As soon as I read it, I'll review it but I have a very long tbr list - sorry."Don't we all. ;-)

To everyone: By the by, I'd appreciate reviews from any and all who do order it. Be honest, whether you love it or hate it, but please do leave a review. Thanks!
Don't know if anyone will like this one. It was turned down by 3 publications. But here it is anyway: Thoughts on Inauguration Day.
"Weasel Words" is now available for pre-order at your favorite bookseller! Release date is February 15th. The ebook is available for just $0.99. That price won't last. It will go up to $2.99 on March 1st. The paperback edition is $12.95. Visit this page and click on a bookseller to learn more or to pre-order. Thank you!
I'm continuing the work I did last year, focusing on building up my email list, and also trying to get several new books out this year. (I intended to publish 3 last year, but only got 1 out the door.) I've posted here about these efforts and also did a recent Medium story about them, which may be of interest to others: Revamp Your Author Platform. This includes information on using StoryOrigin, which I've found to be extremely powerful.

The design is fine (readable, not too "busy"). The second one is definitely brighter and might be more eye-catching, although the first, being a bit muted, better suggests shadows and darkness, which could be in keeping with the novel.
It took a long time, but "Solve This" part 1 is finally available on Lit Up. Subsequent parts will appear each week on Thursday. There are seven parts in all.

Sorry to see you leave Medium, but I understand. Just so you know, you could (if you wanted) keep posting there without a paid account. It's just that your reading is restricted. But there are ways around that, too.
