I decided to read; "The Anatomy of Glory: Napoleon and His Guard" as my theme book since it was a birthday gift in 1998, its about time I read it :)

Charge!: Great Cavalry Charges of the Napoleonic Wars by Digby Smith
I have to make a choice between these two titles for this month's theme:
Riflemen: The History of the 5th Battalion, 60th (Royal American) Regiment - 1797-1818 by Robert Griffith
The Anatomy of Glory: Napoleon and His Guard by Henri LachouqueOr I could try and fit them both in :)
What do others have in mind for their theme book?
Hi everyone, the August theme read page is open and ready for comment and discussion. The theme is any book or books of your choice, which can include novels, that covers a Napoleonic unit history and/or Napoleonic Cavalry:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I really enjoyed ''For God and Kaiser''.
For God and Kaiser: The Imperial Austrian Army, 1619-1918 by Richard Bassett
Those are pretty staggering statistics MR9, no wonder many young men equated a posting to the tropics as more like a death sentence!
A very interesting post MR9. I think that's the first time I've heard of Britain purchasing slaves for their army.
I have a copy of "Death before Glory" waiting to be read MR9. I hope its a good book, keep us all posted.

Perfect response!
I do like this quote; "He once granted an officer leave to spend forty-eight hours in Lisbon on the grounds that that was as long as any reasonable man might wish to stay in bed with the same woman..."
That's a very good question MR9 and I don't have an answer off the top of my head. I will try and check the first volume of Rory Muir's two book-set on Wellington and see what he has to say.
Sounds like it will be an excellent read MR9, nice addition to the French section of your library :)

Two interesting books, nice additions to your library :)
I tend to agree with that observation in regards to Napoleon's family, they did seem to be a bunch of money-grabbers a lot of the time!
