185 I’ve read one almost the same, but two brothers. Ménage.

Don’t think the step father saw thru the mothers act to start, but she had a routine. She’d pick a rich guy, research him, bump into him and be exactly what he wanted. Then when she was ready to move on, she’d repeat the process while still dangling the soon to be ex.

In this one, she blackmailed the nice daughter with her inheritance in trust to play happy families because the stepfather liked her.

Stepdad admits he only got with the mother cause the daughter reminded him of his first wife. Wanted one of his sons to find her. Both of them did. Mother was blackmailing her with an inheritance she was purposely destroying.
185 If it sounds familiar, I’ll hunt…

Big dresses, old fashioned, but possibly other world rather than historical. Powers are a thing, and she somehow ends upon a cliff overlooking the ships. She flames up like no one’s ever seen and torches all the badguy boats. The love interest (?) reaches thru the flames to ‘bring her back’. The barely gets them (flys?) back to their boat before he collapses with injuries. Even all the powers can’t heal him fully and he ends up with a deformed hand/arm?
185 Pretty sure that’s The Athena Effect.

185 I’m 99.999% sure this is Right. If not, someone’s copied the book and changed a couple of details.
185 I’ll third Mary B from above.

185 Any idea on era or country it was based in?
185 I knew I’d read at least one example.

185 HR = Historical Romance
185 Sorry Lobstergirl, I can’t edit from my end. I only have the app.

Since everyone here is a reader, isn’t it kind of obvious that HR isn’t Human Resources? I get the occasional newbie might be thrown, but most readers would think further than that.

I’ll try and remember in future. Thanks
