: ) I hope you find it! I'd like to read this too.

Beach Trip by Cathy Holton? Or Happiness Key by Emilie Richards?

I think I've read this, and it might have been the first book in a series that I didn't stay with. I remember an illustrated fantasy cover (rather than the popular ones right now that incorporate photos of pretty girls). I think it was from the early 2000s: '05, '06, '07? I remember a lot of setting description about the Fae Court, and court 'politics.'
This next detail might be the same book or a similar book... Was there a character whose wings didn't grow or were not as large as others', or maybe the Fae could use magic to change the size and appearance of wings?
I wish I could help with the title!! This is going to drive me nuts, trying to remember.

: ) Thanks! This is the most helpful group, ever!

Thanks, Andy, this might be it! I'm not sure: I'll have to request it at the library & read to find out. I really hope so! : ) Thanks for your suggestion.
I remembered a female lead character, but after 3 decades, I can't be certain. The part about the disturbed/grieving scientist who creates the plague sounds really familiar. And you're right, it's from the right time period.
Thanks again! I'll be excited to find out.

I think I might have read Z for Zachariah... but unfortunately it's not the one I'm trying to remember. Thank you for the suggestion, though!!

Thanks for the suggestions of The Children of Men, and The Unnamed Midwife. They are not the one I'm thinking of, but I appreciate everyone's help!! (They are both on my to-read list.) : )
I'm 90% sure the book I'm thinking of was set in America. At some point I think the woman did become pregnant; I'm not sure if it was before or after the plague. It has been so many years- the details are sketchy in my memory. I'll try to think of any other distinguishing features...

No, but thanks for the suggestion. It took place entirely on realistic present-day Earth. Nothing scifi, though your suggestion sounds like something I might like too.

I thought it might be a Michael Crichton or a James Patterson, but it seems not. I think it was another popular male author of the 80s? Maybe.

Is it a children's book, YA, or adult?

Thank you, but no, that's not it. There were no aliens, or anything supernatural or futuristic. It took place in "present-day" Earth, there was just a supervirus or plague that had wiped out women.
Society had devolved somewhat, I think? There might have been some fighting over resources, but it wasn't post-apocalyptic to the extent of The Road. I think it was told with omniscient narration, or maybe some parts were told from the last woman's perspective. It's been decades, so I only remember the broad outline, not too many details.

Thanks! I'm on my phone right now... but will do that when I'm home, on my laptop!

Could it be an Eric Flint book? He writes fantasy mixed with alternate history. Usually in series, I think?

It almost sounds like Starman, by Alan Dean Foster, but that was a bit more adventure than romance. Though it emphasized the romance aspect in the movie, as I recall.

Daniel Woodrell writes books set in the Appalachians, such as Winter's Bone. Maybe one of his?

This was my first post here... can someone please tell me how to mark it "solved"? Thanks!

Yes! Thank you, that is it! I can't believe it's by James Patterson. Many thanks - now I can re-read it. : )

This sounds like it could be something by the author Yasmine Galenorn, who writes paranormal, and urban fantasy.
I've only read one of her books, but maybe try searching with her author name?

This was a book I read in the 1980s, a sort of religious thriller. Two young women are unexpectedly pregnant, possibly both pregnant as virgins. I think one was American and the other was Irish? One was a devoted Catholic. There was intrigue and speculation as to whether a child would be born to one, who would be a second coming of Jesus, and if so, to which mother? There was also concern and fear: that if both were pregnant virgins, would the second mother give birth to the Anti-Christ? At least one of the women was named Mary. This was not a really religious-themed book, despite the topic. It was definitely a thriller. (Published after The Omen, and books like that, became popular.) I think it was set in both Ireland and America, possibly Washington DC or New York. I think it was told from the perspectives of both women.

This was a book that I read sometime between the early eighties to early nineties, I think. It was a post-apocalyptic novel, where something had wiped out all of the women on the planet, possibly a plague. Then one woman was found alive, and with the need to repopulate the human species, things became frightening. She was isolated? Taken captive or held somewhere in secret for her own protection?
I would love to re-read this, if I had any memory of the title or author's name. All suggestions appreciated!
