185 Just to confirm, is the setting definitely post-Victorian? Early 1900s and onwards?

Was the younger brother referred to as a pirate or smuggler/ privateer?

"Existential YA book

Hello, I posted about this same book a couple years ago, but never found any results. I don't remember a lot of details, but I remembered parts of it
1) The book opens with the main character hearing a news broadcast about either splitting the atom, or the disappearance of atoms. This leads to a mental breakdown throughout the novel where the main character starts to panic about their place in the world, and how they will eventually disappear.
2) the main character has 2 friends and an "annoying" sister. At one point I remember they all go stargazing, and then when the main character goes back to grab something, and sees their 2 friends kissing, which also sets them off.
3) there's also a scene where the main character has a conversation with their friend's dad, all about the existential crisis the main character is experiencing
Hopefully someone out here recognizes something from this book, I remember I read it in the early 2010s, but the book seemed to be set in the 80s or the 90s possibly"

"Short Novel About American Indian Boy On The Edge Of Manhood

I remember buying this short novel in about the mid-1980s. It was a story about a native American boy on the verge of manhood hunting in the woods, possibly in winter. I think he was pursuing a specific animal - possibly a wolf but not certain. I think there might have been a wise father figure in the book. I do not remember if the boy was successful in his hunt, but at the very end of the book there was brief mention of the free life of the Indians coming to an end, and of the people having to go onto reservations. I think the cover had an image of the hunter and/or an animal among trees, and I remember it being largely blue. The author might have been named Tim or Kim"
