Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me find a book I read a while ago — it’s probably middle grade or YA, and I can’t remember the title or author, but here’s everything I recall:

The story centers on a brother and sister who go to or stay in a mysterious place often described as a “house of time” or something similar.

In this house, time is stopped or frozen everywhere else but works differently inside. The siblings can enter and move through it even though time outside is halted.

There is a man or authority figure who tells the siblings (or a small group) that they must carve their names into a wall or a mirror as part of a ritual.

The siblings decide together not to do the carving because it is dangerous and could cause death or have very serious consequences.

Despite their decision, the sister secretly wakes up at night and carves her name into the wall or mirror anyway.

This carving ritual is somehow linked to restarting or fixing time, but the cost is very high — possibly death or a fatal curse for the person who does it.

The house itself has a magical, mysterious vibe — almost like the house in Howl’s Moving Castle — and the whole thing feels very supernatural and eerie.

I might be mixing up details from two different stories, but I don’t think so — all these elements feel like they belong to one single book in my memory.


If anyone knows this book or something very similar, please let me know! I’ve been trying to find it for a long time and would love to read it again.

It is about a woman who is a painter who has no memory of a past life where she is married to a vampire king. She was stabbed and her witch friend did a spell so she will be reincarnated but she wouldn’t have any memory of her past life and she couldn’t be told about it because she had to remember on her own. There is a man who owns an art gallery and he wants her to paint pictures for a gallery opening and he is actually her past vampire king husband. He comes to her at night and leaves clues around her house to try to trigger her memory. Her supposed friend and self proclaimed agent is actually the person who killed her in her past life. There was a worker from an art store who was stalking her and he was killed and there is a snake shifter who is the vampire kings employee or friend since when the woman died.
