174195 Voting is open for Poll 13!

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

And results have been posted for our 2023 anniversary list prompt!

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Sep 13, 2024 06:07AM

174195 Also, for those interested, this poll was our closest anniversary poll yet. We had three that went back and forth through the entire voting process: book that involves murder, book related to a chess piece, and this one. This one pulled through in the end.
Sep 13, 2024 06:05AM

174195 And our 2023 Anniversary List prompt is...

45. A book whose author has published more than 7 books

The next (final!) round of voting will open on Sunday, September 15.

The mods have discussed our 2025 prompt, and we have decided to use the prompt that has the highest net votes after all rounds of voting are complete! Our voting numbers have been consistent enough that we feel this is a fair way to compare prompts across polls, and we are excited with the prompts currently in the lead... which you will find out with the final poll's results!
174195 Yep!
174195 Yep!
Sep 12, 2024 09:15AM

174195 Welcome Isabella!
174195 And for a children's book, it can be less than 100 pages (which is the requirement for all other prompts).
Sep 12, 2024 08:47AM

174195 dalex, I'm a bit like you on the food prompts - they keep coming up and I always struggle to read something for it.

That being said, I'm listening to The City of Brass and there were 3 instances of someone trying to poison someone else's food. Not something you can really tell will happen ahead of time (that's not in the description of the book), but I think it would be considered a "plot device". A nifty spin if you need it.

174195 For those of you who have done a read-a-thon for the this group in the past, this should look familiar. If you're new to this, allow us to explain!

What do I have to do to participate?
If you are interested in participating and can commit to actively engaging in the read-a-thon, then please sign up in the comments below. We have chosen the categories so this group activity is fair and fun for readers of all speeds.

Please only sign up if you can commit to checking in with your team (on Goodreads) at least 5 times during the September 14-22 schedule.

How many teams will there be?
It will greatly depend on how many people sign up and how much they think they will be able to read. We are targeting 8-10 people per group.

QUESTIONNAIRE (This helps us sort teams!)
1. What is your availability this week, and how many books do you anticipate reading during the Read-a-Thon?
2. Which time zone do you live in?
3. Can you commit to checking in with your team frequently during the read-a-thon?
4. Are you interested in being a team leader for your group? (i.e. keeping track of team totals, needed tasks, updating spreadsheet, etc. -- We aim to have two captains per team so you can share the responsibility.)
Sep 11, 2024 08:57AM

174195 Allegra, you should still be able to add your name to the spreadsheet! You would need the Google Sheets app to be able to edit it though, so maybe that's what's going on.

Allie, the read-a-thon information will go live today or tomorrow! It starts on Saturday. I've been a bit distracted with the hurricane, but it should go live soon.

3. A book related to butterflies or moths

Red Admiral
Grizzled Skipper

Moths
Deaths Head Hawk Moth
Elephant Hawk Moth
Footman
Chimney Sweep
The Mouse
Old Mother Shipton (a witch)
Puss moth
The drinker
The conformist (and the nonconformist)
Beautiful Snout

Also trapped butterflies seem to be a current cover trend for books about women in difficult circumstances.

174195 It's now time to get ready to vote for our next set of prompts! The thread will be open for at least 24 hours before the poll gets posted. This is a good opportunity to ask any question you may have regarding the prompts, do some research, or ask for recommendations.
