173974 I'm finding myself slightly surprised by just how many village parallels Miss M keeps finding in this one, all through the book - I'm enjoying it but I have a feeling later on in the seeiesthese tend not to be quite so frequent!

173974 Thank you, both sound different and interesting.

173974 Wow, that's a lot of authors, some great names there. Who are you most keen to hear, Susan?
173974 Not sure if this has been posted before, but there's an old post on Martin Edwards' blog where he explored the Lunesdale area, describing it as 'Lorac Country'. It has some interesting photos.

That's interesting, Susan - I do like this one but the first book is my favourite, as I love the vicar in that one! I think Miss Marple plays a bigger part this time, though, which is good.

173974 Nominations are needed for our June group read! As usual, please only nominate books written and published in the Golden Age period, or a little earlier or later - if in doubt whether a title is eligible, just ask. Only one nomination per group member, and only one book by any individual writer, can be nominated per month.

If you aren't sure whether we have read something, the group bookshelves may help, or just ask. If it was at least 3 years ago that we read it, it is fine to re-nominate. Looking forward to your nominations.

173974 Thank you, Susan, hope all those celebrating have had a good day.
173974 Thanks for opening the threads, Susan. Who is reading this one? I enjoyed it - I read it last year but have had a look through to refresh my memory.

173974 Thank you Susan! I'm halfway through my reread, listening to the audio version read by Stephanie Cole. I remember the story quite well, so it's interesting to follow the plot.

173974 Good to hear, Carissa!
173974 I read Book 3 in the Henry Tibbett series, Death on the Agenda - Henry and Emmy are travelling around again and are in Geneva this time, due to a meeting of an anti-drugs committee. I didn't think this was quite as good as the first two books, though I enjoyed the setting.
173974 I'm not sure I'll make it through the whole Tibbett series either, but am enjoying it so far!
173974 I agree with Jackie that the scenes with little Betty are well done, and was pleased to see T & T adopting her at the end. I suspected Mrs Sprot of being somehow involved, but only because she was the least likely person!

I thought it was clever how Tuppence checked that the colleague of her daughter's was dodgy - definitely showing that she is still several steps ahead of her children, despite their rather patronising attitude, which I agree is infuriating.
173974 I definitely agree that there's a lot to like in this book, Sandy - I really liked Maigret being so kind to the penniless young father-to-be. I also liked the humour of him taking the American visitor for endless meals, and the fact that the visitor makes brilliant suggestions rather than hindering him as I initially expected!

However, I did get slightly confused by some of the plot twists, so I think I need to watch a TV adaptation to get it a bit more straight in my head.
173974 That's good to hear, Sandy, I also thought it was one of the best and really liked the way we see some new sides of Maigret's character in this. He keeps developing even after all these books.
173974 Hope you enjoy it, Susan - I'll be interested to hear what you think.
173974 Good to hear you liked The Sunken Sailor: Inspector Tibbett #2, Sandy. I want to read this series in order, but Patricia Moyes seems to be one of those authors where the books appear and then disappear on Kindle, in the UK anyway!
173974 I agree with both of you, I couldn't see how Annie found out the secret and I also thought the murderer's motive didn't make sense. But I also enjoyed the characters' development, especially Max - I just wish the story had been less grim.

173974 Welcome, Mihir, glad you found us. We read lots of Golden Age authors here, so hopefully you will find some more to explore, and we also have a Christie challenge under way if you feel like some rereading.
