173974 Martin Edwards wrote a nice tribute to her.
173974 The author died very recently, Susan, but I'm not sure when her latest book came out.
173974 I'm always surprised that there is quite a bit of humour in these, as you say, Pamela, but I agree it gets dark quickly.

The start is very similar to the start of Last Bus to Woodstock by Colin Dexter, the first Inspector Morse book, which I read recently, but I think it must be a coincidence as both books were first published in the UK in 1975. I wonder if dangers to women catching buses and hitching were particularly topical at that stage in the 1970s, although it was before the Yorkshire Ripper.
173974 Just a quick warning to anyone who hasn't read Roseanna, the first book in this series - if you're planning to, it's advisable to read it before Cop Killer. The solution to Roseanna is an important element in this book.
173974 Wow, the 30th book in the series, and getting well into the 1950s! How do those who have stuck with the series feel it has changed since the start?

173974 I haven't started this yet, but have borrowed the edition shown in Susan's introduction from the library.

I am excited to get back to Wimsey again! Who else is reading this? The spoiler thread is linked below:

173974 Thank you for setting up the threads, Susan. Who is reading this one? I hope to get to it a bit later in the month.

Interesting that we have ravens at the start of this one, and crows at the start of our latest Catherine Aird book.

173974 It's mid month, so let's start this buddy read! Who is reading this one - I believe a couple of members have finished it? From the reviews, it looks a bit weird...

173974 Who's reading this one? I've read about a third and am grabbed by it, as always with this series. Good to see that Beck is still happy with his new girlfriend, but apart from that it all feels pretty dark so far.

173974 Hope Jill is OK. Thank you for the update, Susan, and also for opening up all our new buddy read threads.
173974 Thank you for setting up and opening our new threads, Susan. Who is reading this one? I really enjoyed it and almost read all of it in one session!

Hi, I am new here. Actually I am a writer from Turkey and I have just registered to goodreads, although I have been writing for more than 15 years :). My books were all in Turkish but I decided to start translating them and started doing so... Now I have 1 translated book which is on Amazon and 2 other platforms. (I am 48 and haven't been writing to classic-style forums for years!)

I would love to hear your comments about my book if you have time and opportunity to read it and I am also open to your crime/ thriller fiction suggestions.

For the ones who'd like to know about my book, here is the link:

173974 That's sad news, Susan. Thank you for posting.

173974 The poll is now open, so please cast your votes! I've left out my nomination due to the availability problems in the US.

173974 Thanks Carol, useful to know.

173974 Murder on Tyneside is free on Kindle in the UK too, Sandy, but looks like it was published in 2016 - it says it's Golden Age style though, so I'm happy to put it in the poll. :)

173974 Thank you Sandy - this is the Kindle version I found on the US site, but it didn't say if it was available or not:

I do wish Amazon didn't make it so difficult to check availability in other countries! Thanks for looking.

173974 PS Just putting out a last call for nominations - aiming to put the poll up tomorrow.

173974 I'd like to nominate Postscript to Poison Postscript to Poison by Dorothy Bowers , the first book by Dorothy Bowers in her Inspector Dan Pardoe series, as I've been meaning to try her for ages.

Please could someone check US availability for me? I've had a look at US Amazon and it looks as if there is a Kindle edition available there from Black Heath Crime but I'm not 100% certain as it has started telling me all Kindle books are "not currently available".

Cornelia Lackland's tyranical rule over her step-granddaughters, Carol and Jenny, is the talk of Minsterbridge. Their grandmother's control over the family fortune means that she has absolute say in Carol and Jenny's affairs - that is if they do not wish to be cut off without a penny. Cornelia recovers from a long illness only to be poisoned the very night before she was due to change her will...

Originally published in 1938, this novel, which introduces Dorothy Bowers's series detective Dan Pardoe, is a classic British murder mystery from the golden age of crime fiction.
