Bathed in the Blood of Hatred

In only a short amount of time, Sunwha had already mastered the arts of Light and Solar manipulation The coven was both astounded and proud to see how quickly Sunhwa had mastered 2 extremely powerful forms of magic in such a short time span of a single year. Jouyoung was extremely proud of his daughter, seeing how well she had progressed and how she was shaping up to be a powerful young witch. However, things ended in the worst possible way just as Joyoung had foreseen.

Sunwha was unaware of what would happen during during her ascension. When she had turned 18, Sunwha was training to control her powers of Solar Manipulation. During her training, she felt something different during when she was using her powers over light. It felt colder, more menacing rather than warm and bright. When she tried to use her powers over light, instead she enveloped the entire training grounds in darkness. She was horrified, unaware of what was happening. As she tried to return the light to the training grounds, she made things worse. The moon appeared in the sky in broad daylight and covered the sun, creating an eclipse. As it did, a tattoo of a crescent moon began to form on her right shoulder. Sunhwa screamed in pain, a surging power rose within her, flooding throughout his entire body, welling up from her chest rushing down from her head to her toes. Sunhwa collapsed unconscious as the moon completely covered the sun. Or, at least she thought she did.

When she awoke she was lying in a pool of blood. Shakily standing she looked around and froze. Everything and everyone was dead. The estate had been burned, the walls turned to ash, traces of fire handing on the roofs of the buildings. She wandered in absolute horror to see every person in the estate murdered. Bodies lay among the halls, amputated body parts scattered. Sunwha screamed to see her father covered in the blood of his assistants where he sat, in his office. Realizing that he was simply unconscious, Sunwha tried to wake him, but when he awoke she didn’t get the response she hoped. As her father awoke, he stared at his daughter horrified. She tried to touch him, but he screamed and told her to stay away from her. He threw vases, anything close to him at her, screaming at her, telling her what she had done. ”YOU KILLED EVERYONE! YOU LOST CONTROL AND TOOK THE LIVES OF EVERY MORTAL IN THE ENTIRE ESTATE! YOU USED YOUR POWERS TO TEAR THEIR BODY TO PIECES!!" he roared at her, still throwing objects at her. Terrified at what she was hearing, Sunwha ran away from the estate as it erupted into flames once more, filling the sky with smoke.


Recent Years

▐ ❝I’m all alone again, aren’t I. . .❞

After the events of Sunhwa nearly annihilating her clan, Sunwha wandered aimlessly around Eastern Asia. She joined few covens and left whenever she felt herself losing control. She traveled alone, keeping her distance from others, keeping to herself. But as she continued to do that, she realized it was making her condition worse. She luckily found a similar potion which would allow her to control her powers with much more ease. She became more sociable, being more friendly and bubbly in order to help her forget her horrible past. Eventually she moved west and found Grievance Ridge. Sunhwa now lives in an apartment building with her pet rabbit.

According to legend, the creators of the islands of Japan, Izanagi and Izanami stood on the floating bridge of heaven and stirred the primeval ocean with a jeweled spear. Izanagi and Izanami descended upon the islands and became husband and wife. The two gods had many healthy children, but during the birth of Kagutsuchi, the fire god, Izanami was badly burned. As she lay dying, she continued to create gods and goddesses, and still other deities emerged from the tears of the grief-stricken Izanagi.

When Izanami died, she went to Yomi-tsu Kuni. Izanagi decided to go there and bring his beloved back from the land of darkness and death. Izanami greeted Izanagi from the shadows as he approached the entrance to Yomi. She warned him not to look at her and said that she would try to arrange for her release from the gods of Yomi. Full of desire for his wife, Izanagi lit a torch and looked into Yomi. Horrified to see that Izanami was a rotting corpse, Izanagi fled.

Angry that Izanagi had not respected her wishes, Izanami sent hideous female spirits, eight thunder gods, and an army of fierce warriors to chase him. Izanagi managed to escape and blocked the pass between Yomi and the land of the living with a huge boulder. Izanami met him there, and they broke off their marriage.

Izanagi felt unclean because of his contact with the dead, and he took a bath to purify himself. A number of gods and goddesses, both good and evil, emerged as Izanagi bathed. The sun goddess Amaterasu appeared from his left eye, the moon god Tsuki-yomi appeared from his right eye, and Susano-ô came from his nose. Proud of these three noble children, Izanagi divided his kingdom among them.


By the Might of the Sea, Sun and Moon

▐ ❝"Ten no kamigami wa, kore made watashi o michibikimashita.”-The gods of Heaven has guided me thus far. ❞

After the loss of order japan because of Izanami, Amaterasu, along with her brothers brought order to Japan after its creation as a result of the cosmic union of male and female kami, or gods in the eyes of mortals. Not long after, Amaterasu had a son called Ame no Oshihomimi no Mikoto and through him a grandson named Ninigi-no-Mikoto. The grandson then proceeded to have a son named Hikonagisa Takeugaya Fukiaezu no Mikoto. The boy was abandoned by his parents at birth and consequently raised by Princess Tamayori, his mother's younger sister. They eventually married and had a total of four sons. The last of them became Emperor Jimmu.

Of course this was all legends. In truth, the great gods of Japan, were nothing more than powerful witches that possessed incredible abilities that allowed them to do incredible things. The story of Izanami and Izanagi was partially true, Izanagi went to the underworld to rescue his wife, but was trying nothing more but to use necromancy to bring her back. Of course, at the time, to prevent a uprising from the mortals living there, the Mikoto coven took on the facade of being gods to prevent any issues. Being worshipped had also caused them to be given the “divine right” to be the rulers of Japan, which to prevent suspicion they gladly accepted.


Separated by the Sea of Stars

▐ ❝The will of the Gods themselves cannot stop me from finding my way to you❞
Flash forward to Seoul Korea, 1990. The current High Priestess at the time, Mikoto Sakuya, had set a meeting with the High Priest of Goguryeo, Kim Joyoung. The two covens were in need of an alliance due to a witch massacre that had occurred a year prior in Japan and Korea. Both clans descending from “divine” origin had great pride in themselves, and normally refused help from anyone else. But since the situation was dire, so there was an exception. After a agreement had been made, the two High Priest’s would work together to protect their clans. To assure both their coven’s safety, the Sakuya and Joyoung ent into hiding together to lure the attention of the witch hunters towards themselves to prevent any more deaths.

During their time together, the two began to fall in love over the course of a year, which was an unspoken law which was never to be broken, seeing that the offspring of two Coven leaders would be born with too much power. But despite this, the two fell in love regardless. From that point, the two met under the pretenses of Coven meetings, but in reality they were spending time together. Within 3 years, when Sakuya had returned once again to Japan, she realized she was with child.



Bred of Day and Night

▐ ❝I wish I could have lived long enough to see you grow up my sweet Sunhwa. . .❞

After returning to Japan, she greatly regretted her decision of allowing herself to fall in love with Joyoung. Being a descendant of the Mikoto clan, she had the very rare power of Lunar and Darkness Manipulation which she had inherited from one of the Founding witches of the Mikoto clan, Tsukiyomi no Mikoto. In contrast, Joyoung had the power of Solar and Light Manipulation which he had believed to have inherited from their Covens sacred animal, the Samjok-o. The idea of a child being born with the power of both night and day scared Sakuya, knowing that having that much power in a single entity would likely kill them.

As she expected, when her child was born, she was quiet, and very ill. Sakuya had a ritual commenced which would channel all of power into her child to allow the child survive. The ritual was successful, but at a cost. In addition to channelling all of her magic power into her child, she had also channelled a large quantity of her own life energy in the process. This left Sakuya in a similar state as her child. To ensure the safety of her child, knowing that her clan wasn’t a safe place for her daughter, she sent her to her father in Seoul and gave the title of High Priestess to her younger sister. Sakuya died about a year after Sunnah’s birth.

Royal Prison

▐ ❝You are forbidden to leave and that’s final. Another word and I’ll lock you in here for the rest of your life.”

When Sunhwa was sent to Korea, Joyoung was utterly shocked. He had no idea he had a child, but knowing it was his and Sakuya’s daughter, he had to hide her. Knowing that if anyone found out about his daughter, they would kill her, Joyoung took the initiative. In order to keep his daughter safe from the outside world, and from herself, Sunhwa was raised in isolation within the confines of her father’s estate. Despite being kept locked up with in her home, Sunhwa shared a good relationship with the staff in the estate. But, because her father was overly obsessed and paranoid about keeping her daughter a secret, he had neglected Sunhwa’s very exsistence.

Joyoung hoped that Sunwha’s powers wouldn’t manifest until she was older, since some Witches powers develop later on. However, Sunwha’s powers manifested at a very early early age, having Joyoung decide to take desperate measures. At first he approached his Elder Acolytes to help him take away all of Sunwha’s powers. But unable to do so without putting Sunhwa at risk, they instead created a potion that would make Sunwha unable to perform any magic or see any magic even as she saw it, with a complicated potion that needed to be brewed every year, though the frequency increased as she aged. The Acolytes had built into her mind a mechanism wherein Sunwha would begin casting simple charm spells once her memories began resurfacing, notifying Joyoung that it would be time to bring her back to the Acolytes.

Like a Bird in a Cage

▐ ❝My dear Sunhwa, you’re as delicate as a Lotus, I kept you here to protect you.❞

Observing the outside world from within her courtyard tower of her father’s estate, Sunhwa spent most of her days singing, reading and interacting with the Estate staff. Being immensely fascinated by the lights that flashed from the other end of the estate, Sunhwa began to develop a sense of curiosity and seeked to fulfill the dream of seeing the outside world. However, she couldn't overcome her father’s strict guardianship and thus continued to staying in her courtyard longing for the day she could be free.

As she grew older, Sunhwa became very anxious and rebellious about not being allowed to leave her courtyard. Her rebellious behavior made her powers manifest more and more, making her father need to diagnose her more ofter. Sunhwa continued with the distress that she never has had any friends, and that she hasn't even been outside the palace walls. Eventually, Sunhwa lost all patience with being treated like a Disney Princess, and managed to run away from home, in the disguise of a peasant. But having never been outside the estate before, she inadvertently got into trouble when she wandered into the slums.

To her luck she was saved by her father’s elite guard who had been searching for her. When she returned home, her father was enraged, but relieved to see his daughter was safe. After what happened to her, he took it upon himself to tell her why he kept her locked away. He explained what she was and what she was capable of, and to his surprise, she took it very well. In order to make her father proud, she swore she would become the most powerful witch both of her parents coven’s had ever seen.

Stephanie also has an over-active imagination and gets carried away thinking of implausible scenarios, such as Witch Hunters being friends with Witches. She has rarely been shown to be in a bad mood, and can tolerate any eccentricities. She is sensitive to being called stupid, as shown when she cried due to people who unknowingly call her an idiot.

Although she initially appeared as a kind and compassionate person, Stephanie has another side to her. Underneath her bubbly exterior, Stephanie also has a cold calculating side which can often lead to her making a blunt (but accurate) analysis of a person or situation. In the end, she has good intentions and tries to help fellow comrades to become more realistic, as she deeply cares for them and doesn't want to lose them like her past coven.

Loss of Control: Chaos Persona
While Stephanie generally has good control over her powers, but when she loses control over her powers, her personality takes a drastic change. When she loses control, she becomes ruthless, psychotic and unstable. Her “Chaos” persona gains a twisted sense of good and evil, bordering on a completely black and white view of the world them. Anyone who is witch, despite the deeds they do both publicly and discretely, are considered good by her, while any mortal or witch hunter who opposes them, even those who are forced against their will, are pure evil. Her twisted view has caused a level of distrust towards her by her own coven members, as she brutally murdered a group of innocent mortals because they insulted her for her clan’s mark. However, when Stephanie is able to regain control over her powers, she retains no memories of what happened in her Chaos state.

Flash Forward to Yinan County, Shangdong 1995. Zhuge Chunhua had fallen in love with a mortal man named Shen Aiguo during a trip into the city of Rizhao. To her surprise, Aiguo had been moved to Yinan to teach as a PE teacher the local middle school. Having worked only a block away from the school, Chunhua would pass the school everyday on her walk home from work. Aiguo would leave around the same time so they walked together like a pair of High School lovers to her home. Only a few months had passed when Aiguo confessed his feelings to Chunhua.

Against her better judgement, Chunhua returned them. Since the beginning of the Covenant of Crouching dragons, it was forbidden to fall in love with a mortal. After her ancestor and (quite alive) High Priest Zhuge Liang’s first born daughter had died after being attacked by her mortal lover’s family, he forbid any romantic relations with a mortal. Knowing full well of this rule, Chunhua told Aiguo about what she was and showed him what she was capable of as a witch. Believing it would drive him away, it did the opposite of what she expected bringing him closer to her.

They bonded and within only 2 months, Chunhua was with child. To prevent any suspicion with the Coven, Chunhua placed an Illusion charm upon herself that prevented all but the caster from able to see or sense any physical changes. Chunhua’s pregnancy went unnoticed by the Coven and (thankfully) the High Priest until the birth of the child.

Beginning of the End

▐ ❝You don’t see it now, but this child will be the end of us all❞

During the birth of Tao, Chunhua had to remove the charm in order to channel all of her mental, physical and magical energy into delivering the baby. Regrettably, the High Priest, Zhuge Liang found out about the child as it was delivered. Not only angered at Chunhua for breaking the covens law of falling in love with a mortal, Zhuge Liang was Outraged to find that Chunhua had delivered a half mortal child. In his fury, Zhuge Liang attempted to murder the child, but instead, killed Aiguo who jumped in the way to protect his love and child.

Chunhua begged Zhuge Liang to consider the posibilities of letting the child live. To Chunhua’s surprise Zhuge Liang let the child live. However, under the agreement that the child was to be taught and mastered all the abilities the child would grow to obtain before the child’s 18th birthday. He warned Chunhua that If it hadn’t mastered it’s abilities by then, not only would dishonor both their clan and the coven, the child would be the cause of their downfall. Chunhua thanked the High Priest for sparing the chlld’s life, and heeded his warning. Relieved that her child would live, began to cry over the loss of a lover and father that her child would never grown to know.

Innocence is Bliss

▐ ❝Lord Zhuge, it’s going to be fine, there isn’t anything a harmless child can do that will bring down our entire clan❞

Growing up, Tao showed no signs of magical talents for most of his childhood. Chunhua reassured the High Priest that Tao was most likely mortal like his father. Zhuge Liang waved aside her assurances, knowing Tao was definitely one of the most powerful witches born over the past Millennium (and 8 centuries). Tao unaware of the latent powers he had at his disposal grew up with a very happy lifestyle. His mother cared for him, and with the help of her fellow members of the coven, raised Tao to be a strong and happy child. His family never had any financial issues, being from a very wealthy and powerful family. Tao was an emotional and sensitive child, smiling when he was happy, shrieking when he got scared, and crying his eyes out when he got hurt.

When Tao turned 6, he joined a Dojo where he learned Wushu, Judo, and Tae-kwon-do. Despite crying like a baby whenever he lost a match or hurt his hands or feet trying to break a board, Tao started to smile again as soon as he saw Chunhua when she came to pick him up. At a very young age, Tao heard the High Priest (who he believed to be his grandfather) saying his name means "Son of a man of war" which instilled in him a desire to train his best to make his “grandfather” proud.

Discovery

▐ ❝This is fun, what else can I do?❞

When Tao turned 13, though the process was slow, his powers began to bloom. His power of telekinesis came first, accidentally throwing objects like vases and plates across the room when he got excited or agitated. Confused and scared why so many strange things were happening to him, he turned to his mother for help. Seeing that her son indeed was a witch, and a strong one at that, she told Tao about their family and who, what they were. Tao now understanding what he was, decided to dedicate himself to becoming the best witch he could be. He learned to master his newfound powers at an alarmingly fast rate, making him a prodigy, excelling at the same rate, if not faster, than the High Priest Zhuge Liang when he was his age.

By the time he was 16, Tao had already mastered the arts of Shapeshifting, Ancestral Evocation and Intangibility. The coven was both astounded and proud to see how quickly Tao had mastered 3 completely different forms of magic in such a short time span of 3 years. Because of his talents and abilities, he was the first ever in their clan to have been promoted by the coven from Apprentice to Guardian before he reached the rite of Ascension. Chunhua was extremely proud of her son, seeing how well he had progressed and how we shaping up to be a brave and powerful young witch. However things didn’t end the way she hoped it would.

Stop the Clock

▐ ❝You were born with the potential to bring our clan and coven great honor, or doom us all to our graves❞

Tao was unaware of the great power that lay dormant during his ascension. When Tao had turned 18, he was on his way from a late snowy day at the dojo when a pain unimaginable stuck him where he stood walking home. He doubled over and hit the ground clutching his head. Tao felt as if he head were splitting in half, as if someone hit him in the head with in axe and was trying to open his skull with pryers. As he screamed in pain, a surging power rose within him, flooding throughout his entire body, welling up from his chest rushing down from his head to his toes. Then, everything froze. The snow stopped, thousands of snowflakes hanging in midair as if it were a Christmas ornament. The sound of cars on frozen pavement ceased, the sound of his dojo mates laughs silent. Tao first terrified of what happened realized what happened. He had gained the power of Temporal Manipulation. He rushed home to tell his coven what great power he held in his hands.

As he returned home he realized he had frozen everything and everyone in Yinan County. He returned home to see even his mother and coven frozen where they sat, in a summoner circle. Realizing that he couldn’t tell them until he unfroze them. Tao tried to unfreeze them, but in an unfortunate attempt did more than that. Not only did he return the time around them to normal, he sped up time around them all to about 100 years. Horrified at what he had done, he held his now brittle and dying mother in shock from the time change. Her last words breathed out to him, barely audible, were “No matter what you’ve done I will always be proud of you and I’ll still love you for every mistake you made.” before she died quietly in his arms.

Judgement

▐ ❝I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to. . .I. . .I didn’t want to. . .❞

Zhuge Liang, being Immortal was unaffected by Tao’s power over time and was both angered and disappointed at what Tao had did. He was infuriated to see Tao had indeed caused the end of the Coven besides himself and Tao, but disappointed to see a student, a child in his eyes, not think ahead to practice his powers before returning time to normal. Tao, who was still in shock from watching everyone who cared about die before his very eyes, was in too much pain to listen to the High Priest rant at what he had done. Tao cried for what would be one of the last times he would ever cry again.

As punishment for nearly wiping out the coven and the clan, Zhuge Liang cursed Tao to become a sleepwalker, stripping him of all his powers. He banished Tao from Yinan to move to America, where he would meet the only person he could ever trust again. However, Zhuge Liang, still caring for Tao, gave him enough money to buy a car in order to travel. Despite this, Tao became cold hearted and solitary not asking anyone for help or accepting any help that was offered. That was until he met Kris (WenHan) a Rogue witch from a Coven that had been very close to his own. Despite the fact he knew what Tao had done, he took him in as a comrade. The more they spent time together Tao began to feel his heart soften to his newfound, adoptive brother.

Recent Years

After the events of Tao nearly annihilating his clan, he and Kris moved to Grievance Ridge. The reason being, both of them had been hunted down, beaten, humiliated, starved and raped by Witch hunters. The duo continued moving west until they found Grievance Ridge. Tao now lives in an apartment building with his pet dog. He works at the Spirit's Club and Bar as a Waiter.

Tao is generally quiet and solitary, and always keeps a level head around anyone, even in combat. He always seems serene and apathetic towards other people, even while deeply conflicted. He generally acts indifferent, bordering on arrogance, to most situations he is faced with, and rarely views anyone worthy of his time or service as a Familiar. He is not particularly interested in whatever is going on around him, though he is observant and a capable analyst.

Tao is very perceptive, fully aware of the limits of his abilities, and anything he states in comparison to an opponent is usually justified. Tao strongly believes in law and order. Growing up in a rich and powerful family in an relatively poor province in China, he has always strived for a peaceful and equal society. He has a very chivalrous nature, stating that he enacts justice on anyone who abuses or treats an innocent badly. Tao has a tendency to not use lethal force in battle, especially if he can win without doing so. Instead, he will simply incapacitate his opponent.

Solitude
Solitude is Tao’s fatal flaw. He is never willing to let anyone get close him and it is never an easy thing for him to have to do. To him, someone is always out to get him, and they want to take his heart and break it. He believes that he’s strongest when he’s on his own, and is completely against the idea of becoming a familiar.
