Selena’s comments from the Random Design group.

This book is about a girl who discovers she's a shadowhunter (which is a kind of half angel, half human that protects the human world from demons) and she discovers that there's a whole nother side to New York with demons, werewolves, vampires, and warlocks. The cup is very important because it is one of the things the angel (who started the shadowhunters) gave the shadowhunters and was used to create them. It's also very important in this book because the villain wants it very badly to start something evil.

My professor saw this and said he would like me to paint the vines too. >.< So I'm working on an idea where I won't have to paint as many because I'm not that good at painting.

Sure :) All you have to do is upload your pictures to photobucket (so you can have a direct link for them) and put them in this:

Erase the bolded part and paste in the link for the picture you want to post. Erase the dashes I put before img and after the last quote mark too. Also, a good width and height would probably be 300 and 400 or something around there. :)

Aaand here is the cover I'm working on. At this point, I've trashed the engraving, "We are but dust and shadows" (still want to use it though), and the background texture (I have a different one in now).



My professor wants me to stinkin' paint the vines by hand. Just because it should "match the grail" which I painted (and am already regretting it).

So right now, I'm working on a project where I'm remaking covers for the first three books of The Mortal Instrument series. I thought I had it under control but it's been way tougher to come up with ideas even than I thought it would be.

And the sketch of the cup with vines and thorns around it is the one I'm working on now. And I shall post a picture of the current version soon. I promise. :) I just have stuff to work on right now.

I decided to make separate threads for my covers/art and those of other people's just to keep it less confusing. At some point, I'm going to see if it's possible to enable any member to start a new thread (as you can probably tell I'm new to the whole Goodreads group thing).

Whoaaa. You guys have been busy while I was gone :D This is why I hate 3 hour classes. I miss everything ;)

Most of you probably know me from my blog Life of a Random but for those of you who don't:

Hi! My pen name is Skylar Finn...my real name is Selena. I'm a freshman in college, getting a degree in graphic design. My ultimate goal is to design book covers either freelance or full time. I made this group as a critique group for my book cover school project and for any other cover projects I might have in the future. Input is great and it's even better when it's coming from people who love and know books. :)
