The Ladies' Paradise is the eleventh novel in the Rougon-Macquart series by Émile Zola. It was first serialized in the periodical Gil Blas from December 17, 1882 to March 1, 1883; and published in novel form by Charpentier in 1883.The novel centers on a department store, an innovative development in the mid-nineteenth century. The store symbolizes Capitalism, modernization, class relations, changes in consumer culture, and sexual attitudes.
Émile Édouard Charles Antoine Zola [2 April 1840 – 29 September 1902] was a French novelist, journalist, and playwright - the best-known practitioner of the literary school of naturalism. He was a major figure in the political liberalization of France and in the exoneration of the falsely accused and convicted army officer Alfred Dreyfus.

It is an abridged audiobook done by Audible that has all Austen novels. I couldn't reconcile to the voice of Elizabeth but I enjoyed it all the same.

Very true, John. I always listen to a sample before I purchase an audiobook. But this is a dramatized abridged collection of all the Austen novels and there are multiple voices for characters other than the narrator.
I enjoyed the abridged audio. It had music at the beginning and the end of chapters and also at certain interludes. It was a very pleasing experience.
