152458 Happy check-in! I read a lot this week but didn't finish much. Long books are good for that.

Finished Reading:

Dune ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (2021 Online bookshelf)
I'm finally finished and free. I did enjoy this but I was slow on the uptake in noticing the commentary on environmentalism. Not too happy with the ending though. @Nadine I see the bossy teenager issues you had now.

An Offer From a Gentleman ⭐⭐⭐ (2017 bestseller from a genre I don't normally read)
This series is entertaining in the dramatics but there is always a plot point, dialog, or character opinions that are problematic.

PS 2021 20/50
PS 2017 16/52
Goodreads 71/200

Currently Reading:
Akata Witch
Rule of Wolves

QOTW:
No idea. Over rated is easier to figure out than under rated.

I'm the first two books (sections) done of Dune and I'm not having the same issues with the book as you. I was thinking that a SF wrote in the 60s with a female main character was the positive step. The world he created is definitely a patriarchy so that is upsetting. Maybe this next section Paul pushing Jessica around will become more noticeable to me. (I am hooked on the science fiction details so maybe I'm just distracted from the characters) I definitely agree it's long and feels like an accomplishment when I make progress on it. :)

Moxie the movie was an enjoyable movie so I've added it to my tbr. The author is a highschool teacher.

152458 @Lynn Happy Birthday! Your husband is lucky to have you. I hope April flies by for you guys and your husband's surgery goes well.

Happy Thursday and Easter to those who celebrate.
Things are pretty much locked down here so Easter is going to be low key like last year, which is fine by me.

Finished Reading:

The Forever Girl ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (2021 3 genereations)
Enjoyable romance. Mostly about healing damaged relationships.

Big Little Lies ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (2021 oxymoron)
Loved this. I had watched half of the first season of the tv show but this book still had twists and turns I didn't suspect. This would also be good for dark academia.

Grave Memory ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
On to book 3 of rereading a favourite series.

Sailor Moon Eternal Edition 4 ⭐⭐⭐
This was still a bit confusing figuring out which character is which and what point in time they are from.

Accidentally Engaged ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (2021 Canadian Muslim author)
This is funny. All the descriptions of food made me hungry but I'll pass on the beer. It was nice to understand the references and know places mentioned in the book.

QOTW:
No I just have multiple lists here. I use to keep track of the books I had read on paper but then I joined goodreads.
152458 I'm going to use this one

Rule of Wolves (King of Scars, #2) by Leigh Bardugo
Mar 29, 2021 12:44AM

152458 Another person over here who loves the masked singer. I did not see the first contestant eliminated coming either.

152458 So this works. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Kindergarten + Violence
152458 For those that don't follow the weekly check-ins our wonderful mod Nadine posted this link for a NYT article about booktok which pertains to our BOTM.

Awesome! I'm going to repost this link in the BOTM thread seeing as The Song of Achilles is benefiting.
152458 Oh haha here I thought it was more a collection of the myths.
152458 @Melissa thanks for adding to my tbr!

152458 Happy Thursday!
This has been an interesting week. The news has so much hate to share, and the people here have so much covid to share. We are going into a second lock down come Monday. On the bright side my parents get their first shots of Pfizer today. Let's hope that this lockdown I read the books in my house.

Finished Reading:

A Court of Thorns and Roses ⭐⭐⭐
This was a reread that remains a three star book even though it's only the last 100 pages that are really good. I love this series but this book is slow and bleak until the good part. Reading this sets you up for book two which I really love.

The Story of Ferdinand ⭐⭐⭐
Just because I had never read it and the movie is so cute.

Namesake ⭐⭐⭐
This was not as good as the first book but now Fable's story seems finished. I enjoyed this but I'm getting annoyed with ya sequels that have titles that spoil plot points that take a chunk of the book for the mcs to figure out.

Sailor Moon Eternal Edition 3 ⭐⭐⭐
This was the most confusing collection of Sailor Moon that I've read. Oh well it's comforting.

152458 I think one can argue that any of the books that have read by this group for BOTMs that you have yet to read would be applicable.

I'm hoping that your ability to check-in is a sign that health is improving. Get well soon.

I agree about Black Panther, Vol. 1: A Nation Under Our Feet, Book 1 not being good. I read on anyway and the they kept getting better. This first volume was so disjointed for me but all of Ta-Nehisi Coates's ideas made sense in the sequels.

I also loved Legendborn so much. I can't wait for the next one.

152458 I’ve already used the freebie of prompt #40 for ‘pun in the title’. I’ve also read a couple books over 700 pages so I can’t justify the long page count tbr. I might stretch it for online bookshelf. I can always put it in the been on the tbr for a long time.
