Oh of course the mouse was completely fine and ran away while I screamed. It was very annoying.

Loved it! It was a five star read for me that had me laughing out loud. I read it in one sitting but I think it could also work for man made disaster.

152458 I think Malibu Rising was the only thing I voted for that actually won. I really wanted The Love Hypothesis to win romance and Bubble to win the graphic novel but no such luck.
152458 Which sibling... well they all surf and that's something I've never done living on the prairies. Totally had to google what an Airstream was too. Didn't know those silver rvs had a special name. Anyway I'm probably most drawn to Nina but that could just be that she's had the most page time so far. I'm at about 20% aka 10 am.

152458 Yeah I was used to mice at the farm and it didn't stress me. Then we got them in the house in the city and I freaked. I was in socks and stepped on one... I don't know who was more scared me or the mouse. They're not fun to deal with but less fun to live with.

The Christmas Crack we make is a bag of Ritz crackers, a can of condensed milk, and a bag of Skor bits. It's way too easy to make and it's gooey and sweet.

152458 Happy check-in! I finished the 2021 challenge this past week! 😀 One down one to go.

Thanks to those who lead the BOTMs, I participated in a couple and lead March's. I'm excited for the polls and I'll probably volunteer for a month when results are in. I really liked the prompts you picked and why for the book discussions Lynn.

Finished Reading:

Shine your Icy Crown ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The library finally bought this and I realized why it took so long. It is way shorter then her other works. I stilled enjoyed it like her other works.

Shifting Shadows ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (2021 on the TBR for a long time)
This finished the challenge for me! I've read every Mercy Thompson book in the series but not this collection with short stories from the world until now. There was a backstory for a character I like that I really loved.

The Graveyard Book ⭐⭐⭐ (2017 holiday not Christmas)
A short book around not Christmas to finish 2017, it's also a highly popular SFF book/author so it should be okay. I nearly dnfed this at the start but it would accomplish a prompt so I pushed myself to finish it. It definitely got better but the slow story telling journey is not my favourite thing.

Lore Olympus: Volume One ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a graphic novel of a popular webtoon series. It's a great take on the Persephone and Hades myth while touching on other Greek myths. Olympus is all modernized (tech) while the human realm is not.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This picture book is so cute and has been looking at me for a while. It was good until a surprise character (you have to be a fan to recognize him) showed up and it nailed the end so 5 stars.

PS 2021 50/50
PS 2017 50/52
Goodreads 262/250

Currently Reading:

Malibu Rising BOTM so far so good
Beartown 2017 bestseller from 2016
Covet

QOTW:
Well I always love the 2022 publication and a previous favourite prompt. The Hugo Award will be fun and I think I'll finally read Fahrenheit 451. I also like the Anisfield-Wolf book because it will actually push me out of my comfort zone of SFF. I think I'll read On Beauty for it.

152458 Title: Blood Heir

Author: Ilona Andrews

This is the first book spun off of an urban fantasy/sci-fi/post-apocolyptic series. (Kate Daniels series) If that's your genre then I definitely recommend.

152458 Cinder specifically works for mc who uses a mobility aid.

152458 A Man Called Ove
Is a perfect fit for found family.
I think the secret prompt works well too.
I’m not sure when the Tom Hanks movie will come out maybe this year.
Christmas happens/is celebrated during the book

Btw I loved this book.
152458 @Nadine to pay back the favour of book recommendations The Summer Deal (Wildstone, #5) by Jill Shalvis by Jill Shalvis. Really enjoyed this one because the dialog was funny and the sibling relationship was great. You could use this for a book about secrets. :)
152458 I finished the 2021 challenge today and now I'm free to start reading this. :)

152458 Date you finished: Decemeber 4

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): #22 (so close to 21 in 2021)

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): Published in 2021, I am always assured a stress free prompt that I will read something I enjoy for. Blood Heir

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Song of Achilles women's prize Blood Heir published 2021 or The Echo Wife genre hybrid

Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : The Song of Achilles For women's prize for fiction. I didn't really like Circe so I was putting this off and this prompt made me read it. I also lead the BOTM discussion to insure I read this, which was a first and it was fun.

Least favorite prompt: Magical Realism 100% I love SFF but not this label.

Prompt you hope to see again: Dark Academia

Last prompt you finished: Been on the TBR the longest Shifting Shadows

Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: No. I gave myself extra rules that left me stressed out about finishing this. I couldn't count ya and no rereads. I'm going to keep the no rereads rule though.

Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes. This helped me read physical books in my house that have been looking at me for years. :)

Finally, are you in for 2022? Of course. I'm already planning but have yet to post a list.
152458 Would The Vanishing Half count?
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

Also book 10 of Seanan McGuire's Incryptid series works. Calculated Risks (InCryptid, #10) by Seanan McGuire

152458 Ooh thought of a non ya fantasy duology. 😁
The Things That Haunt duology which are poetry. To Make Monsters Out of Girls and To Drink Coffee with a Ghost by Amanda Lovelace

Legendborn is a fantastic book that would work for BIPOC SFF.

I enjoyed Slayer and Chosen. I also really like The Wrath & The Dawn duology but I can't remember if either fit your criteria for annoying.

I read Lock-in and it was a decent cop investigation set in a plague ravaged world. I didn't realize it was a duology tell now and I'm not sure if I will read the sequel.

152458 You can always redo a previous ps list if 2022 does not work for you.

152458 @Jamie

So There wasn’t a recipe laid out in P.S. I still Love you but I’m pretty sure Laura Jean makes something for a bake sale and teaches Peter how so you could stretch it.

Goldenhand could be put in the afterlife category because Liriael is an abhorsen in training going in and out of death to send spirits onward.
152458 1. Yes, one other book. Evelyn Hugo and I loved it. It is contending for my favourite read of the year.

2. I will read this for the first time this month although I haven't started it yet. I would like to finish one of the long books I'm currently reading first but we'll see. I don't want to get behind the discussion.
