One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle
151076 Two years ago, FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid put psychopath Elise Hansen Hunt in juvenile detention for her role in an organized crime syndicate. Now eighteen, Elise has been released with a clean slate, and plans to take her revenge by making Lucy’s life hell. The plot begins with Lucy’s husband Sean Rogan, who has been arrested for a murder he most certainly did not commit.

Lucy is determined to prove Sean’s innocence, but is warned off the case by her boss. As she calls in reinforcements, she learns that Sean’s brother Kane is missing in Mexico, her partner Nate Dunning has been arrested for possession of cocaine, and her friend Brad Donnelly has been kidnapped outside DEA headquarters. Lucy realizes that Elise doesn’t have the resources or patience to execute such a devious plan. Did Elise’s father orchestrate everything from prison? Or is there someone even more calculating seeking revenge on Lucy by hurting the people she loves?

One thing is certain: if Lucy doesn’t find the answers fast, Sean will die.

151076 Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he's a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband's life a misery, and she'll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself—as none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire . . . not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn't bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She's the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past? Only the devil's daughter knows.

151076 Thanks, Lauren! Higgins is an auto read for me. Her more recent books are contemporary fiction with romantic elements. Her earlier works are contemporary romance.
151076 I think that’s what was added as the prequel in this series (book #4).

I looked at that and couldn’t find the connection. Even checked the author’s website. Have you read either? I know it says that on the series page but I can’t find that reference anywhere else.

151076 1. Did you complete and/or get up to date in any series this month?
I got up to date in two series:
Colorado High Country by Pamela Clare
DI Kim Stone by Angela Marsons

2. Did you start any new series? If so, what were they? Will you continue?
I started two series and definitely plan to continue both as they were great:
Sunset Cove by Jill Shalvis
Finlay Donovan by Elle Cosimano

3. Did you move forward in any series (that you didn’t complete or finish)? How many?
I moved forward in 5 series:
Lucy Kincaid by Allison Brennan
Rabun County by Lisa Clark O’Neill
Kate Burkholder by Linda Castillo
The Ravenels by Lisa Kleypas
Tracy Crosswhite by Robert Dugoni

I’m also re-reading two series:
Troubleshooters by Suzanne Brockmann
The Guardians Trilogy by Nora Roberts

4. Any standout or 5 star books read? Why did you love it/them?
I had four outstanding listening experiences: Finlay Donovan Is Killing It, Six Graves, Out of the Clear Blue Sky and Gone Too Far. I listened to all of them and the narrators made wonderful stories even more outstanding.

5. Overall summary of your reading month?
Another month where I loved everything I read, 14 books total. Special shout out to Kristan Higgins for never failing. That book delivered. And, thanks to all participating in the group and buddy reads. Those discussions just make the reading experiences richer.
