151076 1. Did you complete and/or get up to date in any series this month?
I completed one series, A Scandal in Mayfair by Anna Campbell.

2. Did you start any new series? If so, what were they? Will you continue?
No.

3. Did you move forward in any series (that you didn’t complete or finish)? How many?
I moved forward in one series, Bree Taggert by Melinda Leigh. I did rereads in three others I’m not counting.

4. Any standout or 5 star books read? Why did you love it/them?
I had standouts in three standalones:
Whiskey Beach had a perfect balance of romance, mystery, suspense and humor.
Look Closer was a deliciously diabolical thriller that lives up to the hype.
The Villa had so many great elements and had a heck of a twist.

5. Overall summary of your reading month?
I was disappointed with only reading 9 books this month. I didn’t include two that ended up feeling like rereads as I prepared the book discussion. But I was more plagued by personal health issues for a week and lots of moderator work because of the flip to a new year. Hoping to get back on track.

Wow, Kristina, I agree! Thanks for all your commentary, too, as I learned a lot about your reading tastes. I also a Slaughter fan and loved GC. You’re going to love Will Trent, too. And, that Caine series was a big surprise for me. I still have the last two books to read.

Congrats on all your series work.

151076 Beneath the water the body sank rapidly. She would lie still and undisturbed for many years but above her on dry land, the nightmare was just beginning.

When Detective Erika Foster receives a tip-off that key evidence for a major narcotics case was stashed in a disused quarry on the outskirts of London, she orders for it to be searched. From the thick sludge the drugs are recovered, but so is the skeleton of a young child.

The remains are quickly identified as seven-year-old Jessica Collins. The missing girl who made headline news twenty-six years ago.

As Erika tries to piece together new evidence with the old, she must dig deeper and find out more about the fractured Collins family and the original detective, Amanda Baker. A woman plagued by her failure to find Jessica. Erika soon realises this is going to be one of the most complex and demanding cases she has ever taken on.

Is the suspect someone close to home? Someone is keeping secrets. Someone who doesn’t want this case solved. And they’ll do anything to stop Erika from finding the truth.
151076 I’m a bit behind, hoping to start it next but I’m drifting into February.
151076 I started it yesterday and am hooked!
151076 The Nowhere Man is a figure shrouded in secrecy—a near legendary figure who helps the truly desperate, those with nowhere else to turn who are lucky enough to be able to reach out to him. When darkness closes in, the Nowhere Man is your last, best hope.

Before he was the Nowhere Man, Evan Smoak was a highly trained government operative known to a few as Orphan X. But he now lives by hiding in plain sight, keeping his head down and his eyes clear. So when a local summer intern for a tabloid news site finds herself trailing an aggressive reporter into a crime zone, things go terribly awry. The only person who can help her is a man with the background and the skills of the Nowhere Man.

151076 Liv Papandreas has a dream job as a pastry chef at Nashville’s hottest restaurant. Too bad the celebrity chef owner is less than charming behind kitchen doors. After she catches him harassing a young hostess, she confronts him and gets fired. Liv vows revenge, but she’ll need assistance to take on the powerful chef.

Unfortunately, that means turning to Braden Mack. When Liv’s blackballed from the restaurant scene, the charismatic nightclub entrepreneur offers to help expose her ex-boss, but she is suspicious of his motives. He’ll need to call in reinforcements: the Bromance Book Club.

Inspired by the romantic suspense novel they’re reading, the book club assists Liv in setting up a sting operation to take down the chef. But they’re just as eager to help Mack figure out the way to Liv’s heart... even though she’s determined to squelch the sparks between them before she gets burned.

151076 FYI, Michael Connelly has officially changed the name of the Mickey Haller series to The Lincoln Lawyer. I guess he’s syncing it up with the TV series.

I worked on the editions yesterday but didn’t finish changing all of them to reflect the new series title.
